Could This Be A Spider Bite?

I'm worried about Puck, he's got this mark on his front leg I first noticed yesterday. It looked different then, it had a dark patch of skin. I bathed it in betadine and put a dressing on it for a few hours to disinfect it. I took the dressing off later in the day. This morning it looked more like it does now. I put Manuka honey on it for a few hours but I've taken it off now to get a good look. He licks it alot and it looks sore, inflamed and infected I think with that strange ring of pus around it. 5557984174_2c9e815fbb_b.jpg

I'm starting to think a visit to the vet might be in order but I'm not sure what they can do for it. He is otherwise happy enough, he had a big run around and play at the park with his brother, he's eating well.

Last year one of my dogs was bitten on the end of his tail by a white spider. He was crying in pain and was chewing on the end of his tail and really made a mess. He was started on pain relief and antibiotics and we didn't think the hair would grow back but it did. I do know of a dog that ended up having what was left of his tail amputated after being bitten by a white spider. Apparently the bites are extremely painful.

Interesting that a couple of people have said it looks like a hotspot. I've never seen a hotspot but I am 100% certain it's not. I've never heard of them in whippets and I've had Puck since birth and he's rising 7 now. I have an appointment for 9am today but I might cancel it because the wound has dried and he's not licked it this morning. I'll have another closer look when it's a bit lighter here, for me to see it with my eyes I need glasses and a magnifying glass as my close vision is not good anymore. I might just take another pic with my macro lens, then I can see what's going on with it.

edit, we're going to the vet, I think it's got bigger overnight, although it looks drier, the pus is still there too. :)

Doesn't look like any hot spot I have ever seen, and I have had my fair share.

Having said that, such a close up shot could be deceiving.

Also legs are not a common place to have hot spots.

Hope he is OK and it turns out to be nothing serious

back from the vet. She thinks it's a bite of some kind, probably a spider and is treatijg the sypmtoms of inflammation and infection. Pucky got two needles and some cream. Already it doesn't look quite as red and angry but it's still inflamed. I hope it doesn't turn into some kind of horror story like some pics I've seen. I suppose we've done all we can though.

Youch! That looks very sore! Not nice for Puck!

Not a hot spot. Hope its not a white tail bite! I knew a shar pei that lost his tail to a white tail spider bite :grouphug:

I hope it dries up and the inflamation goes down soon!

It actually looks like a spider bite I had on my arm a few years ago, it grew to the size of a 20 cent piece then started to heal. Ended up healing quite quickly once it had started to but a small lump of scar tissue remained. Oddly enough it wasn't particularly painful.
