Are You Biased Against A Type Of Photography?

Just been reading some threads on a photography forum and wondered this. Are there any types of photography you secretly think require less talent or just don't float your boat? It's taboo to say so really, but I think a lot of photographers have some secret and not so secret judgements. As a captive animal photographer I see a lot of this I guess.

For me, it's not really the genre itself, but the majority of photos you generally see online in the genres, letting them down.

I think I am against the type of photography that lets photography down in general. I'm all about people getting out there and learning (like myself) but when I see people's wedding photos coming through and they are dreaful - which they have paid for - which I am seeing more and more of it really irks me. I know pro photographers can be expensive and not everyone can afford them.. but there are people out there selling themselves as pros because they have a fancy flash big camera thingamajig.

I had dinner with a colleague from work not long ago and she was telling me how she was getting into the photography business and she already had 2 weddings lined up etc etc and I asked her as a general type question what gear she had (lens wise). She had no idea. I asked what she used for editing. She didn't use anything. ARGH!

Probably not the answer or discussion you were looking for..

I don't like nudes  And photos thats are photoshopped so "creatively" I can't tell what the imge was of to start with...

I really love seeing all the dog photos on here and to be honest it's all I really photograph... but I also realise my work is fairly bland so I would hate to see people think 'oh dog photos are so boring' based on my amatuer attempts!

Im not a fan of HDR....

I can fully appreciate a nicely done HDR in context, but there seems to be a lot around that are badly done and quite extreme.

I respect that photography is an art that is subjective, its just not for me

I have to admit I'm developing a serious dislike of macro - I've just seen too many where the only skill is coming from the fact the 100mm blurs so nicely, and composition and having an actual point of focus on the image is a thing of the past!

I also feel a bit bored with bird photography. I'd like to see some more creative shots rather than just "I nailed this species and it's sharp".

lol, you'd best avoid my flickr stream then :grouphug: I guess I photograph bugs and birds as I've always had a love of the natural world and it's what I enjoy :)

Another one here who is not a fan of the over done HDR images, they make me cringe ;) And bog standard 'model' shots do nothing for me, but saw this guys stuff from a flickr group and really like his studio work :D

Like ange said, people who think "omg I'm the best someone pay me this amount of money to take a bad picture of bla and bla" (hope that doesn't come out as an attack :grouphug:). I'm not a fan of taking photos of sport or people, to hard to focus on and just not what I take photos of.

I'm not a macro or a (OTT) HDR fan.
:)

Macro is my favourite ;) I especially love looking at macro photos, like iltbys or CrazyCresties photos!

Oh gosh on that note of those people thinking they're photographers... A person on my facebook started her own photography page and is offering to take pictures for people etc. I asked her what camera she was using and she didn't know.. It's obvious from the photos she's just using a point and shoot. :) I find that quite offensive to be honest because it takes a great deal of work and money to be a professional photographer, can't just decide to claim you one are without any of the expertise, kind of like breeding I suppose. :cheer:

On topic I don't think there's really a genre I dislike. I suppose what doesn't appeal to me are portraits of people cause they're boring. Pictures of animals or kids on the other hand, can't get enough of them.

Love macro...just because it focuses on small things of unique beauty that we either take for granted or miss in our busy lives. Done well it intrigues me. Not a big fan of HDR generally, although some are ok... I passsionately dislike photoshopped glamour images (starshots wise) because frankly they dont capture the essence of the subject just an idealist image in a world that is way to judgemental anyway. Love natural portraits.
