Golden Retriever Attacks 4 People

The frenzy attack to bite 4 people dog is very much stressed into defense drive fearing his life to do this if not from a medical complaint is possible too, but would be intersting to learn of the trigger bringing this to unfold I am thinking, yes?.

Yes, I'd love to know the backstory on this one. Just what was happening before the dog started fighting, or does he have a medical problem.

Not because of the breed, but because a pet animal attacking several resident adults known to it without an apparent trigger sounds very unusual.

Edited: was posting this when the report of the family fight was reported. I guess that's the trigger somehow. Poor dog.

Am I the only one here that doesn't see the bias towards the family breed? Just heard the news reporter say they are investigating the reason for the attack and deciding whether the dog should be destroyed or not.

Had that been a pitbull, stafford, rottie etc would they have investigated? Or would they have just deemed the dog dangerous and to be PTS?

It injured four people? It attacked a human. Regardless HUMAN aggression should not be tolerated in ANY dog and it should be put to sleep. Obviously if there are underlying conditions or reasons it is debatable. But if it was just the dog thought the two men were fighting and attacked NOT acceptable. I could scream in my brother's face and punch him and visa versa and I can guarantee my dogs would not attack.

Let me repeat.

Human aggression is not to be tolerated doberman or golden retriever.

There is definitely a bias towards the breed, not only in reporting but also in all the comments. Most people are pushing to investigate why a golden behaved this way.

However, just because there is BSL and some breeds are regarded as dangerous and don't get the same considerate treatment doesn't mean we shouldn't allow this golden's owners to investigate why their dog behaved this way. And if it is caused by a medical condition like tumour taht can be treated, why shouldn't this dog get a second chance?

We should instead ask for the same consideration for all breeds. Even the neighbour who got bitten has said he doesn't want the dog PTS.

Kiera the dog MAY not have been mistreated. There may have been a number of factors. Unsocialised, the noise of the argument, the physical violence (when the people were arguing) untrained, dog etc. There may have been a purple fairy that waved it's wand and casted an attack spell but the fact is REGARDLESS it is never acceptable for a dog to EVER attack a human. This just wasn't a random person jumping into the yard unescorted it attacked its owner. Its owner does not want the dog put down but would you want to own a dog that has previously attacked you?

And lets be realistic I highly doubt the owners will fork out the money to have him assessed, trained etc.

Best thing for that dog and that family is to have the dog put to sleep.

Odin the point I'm trying to make is if it was anything but a g.r there would not have been an investigation or an assessment for medical condition. They would have just blamed the breed.

When have you heard of a pitbull attacking someone being assessed for a medical condition or a brain tumour etc? They never do. But because it's a golden retriever it gets the opportunity. Unfair. Biased and ridiculous.

I'm actually quite sick of every dog attack thread being taken over by the pitbull media-bias complaint.

I used to have some sympathy for it, but I'm just sick of hearing about it now.

There is no reason pitbulls had to be mentioned in this thread at all.

No wonder people think of them everytime an attack is mentioned, when even their supporters can't let the story be about anythng else.

Flame away, I won't respond, because if that is all the thread is going to be about I'll go read something else.

Hahah Diva living up to your name?

Am I not allowed to state my protest just as you? Am I not allowed to point out the bias in the media as well as on this forum? Am I not entitled to post? Because it upsets you or (others) I should not post my detest? I was stating a factual point and you dismiss me because you're sick of hearing it?

I did not just say pitbull, I mentioned them I also mentioned dobermans, rotties and said ETC. As in anything other than a 'family' known breed.

Could the dog have been a blond Hovawart rather than a goldie? The two breeds look similar.

Hmmm seems quite unlikely? I don't think there are very many (if any) Hovawarts in Australia. There are 1000's of goldens, yellow labs and lab/goldie hybrids in Australia... that seems much more likely.

Does it really matter at all whether the dog was a Goldie, Lab or Goldie Lab cross? I think we can agree that neither breed are vicious monsters who deserve to be PTS wholesale - it's one individual animal who behaved unacceptably in what may have been an extremely stressful situation. It's unfortunate that it occurred, for the people who were bitten and for the dog, who will probably be PTS, but I doubt it will have wider ramifications for anyone.

As for complaints of breed bias, yep, it's true, had it been a Pitty there would be a whole lot less sympathy for the dog. Unfortunately that's the way the world is, and it's only ever going to change through action, not complaint.

Through action such as informing people that bias does exist and getting people like yourself to admit it. First step. To recognise there is a problem. There is no denying that most people on here know there is a bias.

This is the point I am making. The dog should be put to sleep. Period. But there is talk of an investigation as to why it attacked which is fine and of course the family deserve that but shouldn't that be a WIDELY applied general rule to all dog attacks then? Why is it different for this dog? Because it is a gr? Or because of the circumstances?

Quick edit to add: Because neither justify the dogs reaction. Just because the owners and neighbours don't want the dog put down doesn't mean it shouldn't. Judging by the video footage it was fearful, anxious and unsure and had just attacked not one but four people. Dangerous combination.

Another edit to add: I'm not debating breeds I am debating why the dog isn't going to be put down? The news reporter said they are investigating to see if it should be put down. Why they would allow such a dog to not be pts immediately? Isn't that normal procedure for dog attacks especially that involve four people?

Did you read my post? There's no need to 'get me to admit it', I said straight out that breed bias exists. I'm just not sure what good complaining about it here is going to do, as I doubt the people with the power to actually change it are reading this topic.

regardless of the breed .... did anyone see the end of the story....? the poor dog was involved in an "incident" last week and was "held" whatever that might mean at knifepoint. What sort of lifestyle have these people got, poor bloody dog is all i can say

Feather, did you read my post? It is not merely a complaint but a question.

By admitting there is a problem breed bias I know you admitted to breed bias but what I'm trying to say is admitting there is a problem is the first step to fixing it. So if no politician is reading this better not voice my discontent cause unless I forward my argument directly to them it will not get heard. This forum is not just for dog fanciers or breeders. The general public use this forum people on the net who look up something random and get directed to this forum can read this. This entire forum is public. So even if one person reads this and becomes aware then isn't that something?

I am not complaining oh woe is me poor targeted BSL. I was simply stating my opinion and facts and YOU interpret that as complaining.

Lol, okay. You're entitled to state your opinion and I'm really not all that invested in arguing with you about it - I just think there are more productive ways of going about changing things. But hey, free country!
