leopuppy04
Is the Animal Network the only company to use? The prices seem much higher than the last time I did the testing (though that may be because I have to get CEA tested this time...). do you know if they offer discounts like GTG used to for doing multiple tests/ testing multiple dogs? they talk about 'puppy' fees - anyone know what age the dog qualifies as a 'puppy' (eg: under 12wks, 6mths or 12mths etc) TIA

Risyntira
GTG charge $199 for CEA, about 5 years ago I paid $189. Discounts apply for three or more dogs being tested, I think up to 10%, I think they also offer an 'online discount'. The puppy fee's I believe only apply to litters. I'd give them a call to find out. No use emailing them as they take forever to reply
dancinbcs
Unfortunately Animal Network/GTG are the only lab licenced to do CEA testing in Australia. The contract they have with Optigen even prevents us sending samples from Australain dogs, straight to Optigen.

mini girl
Ring them and talk to them - I had a girl tested for PRA and got the puppy price I thinks she was about 13 weeks - I found them so helpful over the phone. Write any questions down before you ring so you don't forget anything - they also will email results as well which means you get them a lot faster. Parkeyre
Is the Animal Network the only company to use? The prices seem much higher than the last time I did the testing (though that may be because I have to get CEA tested this time...). TIA There are a few options for Canine DNA testing online... There is Animal Network which you've already mentioned. (formally Genetic Technologies) http://www.animalnetwork.com.au/ ASAP is also online and similar to the above. http://asaplab.com.au/dnatesting/index.html You can also try Gentec. http://www.ausbiotech.org/directory/detail...icalIndex%2Easp and International Genetics http://www.ingen.bs/ and DNA Diagnostics Center (DDC) http://www.vetdnacenter.com/ do you know if they offer discounts like GTG used to for doing multiple tests/ testing multiple dogs? Animal Network is GTG. I'll quote the information regarding discounts for you. Canine DiscountingThis describes the process for the new canine discounting methods. Online Discount There is a 5% discount, on top of all the other discounts, if you pay for your tests online and complete the online forms. Puppy Pricing The puppy price is not considered a discount from the normal price and therefore does not have an associated discount percentage. The puppy price will be listed as a normal price with a unique product code e.g. CEA-P, PRA-P. All further discounting methods will be applied to the puppy price as is the case with any other product. Animal Discount Classification In order to calculate the appropriate total discount each animal needs to be identified. If several products for a single animal are chosen then the “Product Volume Discount” applies. If a single product is chosen for multiple animals then the “Animal Volume Discount” applies. Each animal can only be included in one of these discount classifications. Animal Volume Discount Animal volume discounts apply to all animals in a case which have a single product assigned to them. The discount is as follows: • Between 3 and 6 single product animals receive 10% off the price of each animal • 7 or more single product animals receive 15% off the price of each animal It does not matter which products are chosen or in what combination. If there is less than three animals with single products assigned to them in a case there is no applicable discounts. Product Volume Discount Product volume discounts apply to all animals in a case which have more than one product assigned to them. The discount is as follows: • Each animal with multiple products receive 15% discount on all lower priced products. This basically means that if an animal has more than one product assigned to it then any product which costs equal to or less than the most expensive product receives a 30% discount. Products Exempt From Discounts The only product which is exempt from discount at this stage is the BITSA product. Coat Colour Since the coat colour price depends on the number of loci chosen, the total price is considered a single product for the discounting methods. Once the total price has been established the coat colour product can be included in the discount they talk about 'puppy' fees - anyone know what age the dog qualifies as a 'puppy' (eg: under 12wks, 6mths or 12mths etc) Puppies are dog considered to be aged six months or younger. DNA tests with the "(Puppy)" mentioned in the title, or a -P in the code (eg: CEA-P) are those offered at a discounted puppy price. The Australian Shepherd DNA tests available by Animal Network and their prices are: Canine Profiling ($70) Collie Eye Anomaly ($200) Collie Eye Anomaly (Puppy) ($140) Hereditary Cataract ($95) Ivermectin Sensitivity MDR1 ($75) Natural Bob Tail ($100) Progressive Retinal Atrophy ($215) Progressive Retinal Atrophy (Puppy) ($150) The more tests you order, the more discount you can gain. Taking advantage of the puppy prices before your pup reaches 6 months of age is also a good way to save a few dollars. The best thing to do if you are unsure is to call or email them.
