W Sibs
Prank gone wrong Drunk's brutal prank on dog backfires March 18, 2011 - 1:00PM A drunken New Zealand man who thought it would be a good prank to pull a dog's tongue has suffered serious facial injuries after the dog bit his mouth. The 39-year-old National Park resident was partying at a friend's house on Wednesday when he grabbed the large crossbreed dog and held it down while trying to grab its tongue. The dog managed to free itself and lunged at the man's face, biting the corners of his mouth, Constable Conrad Smith said. The man was taken to Taumarunui Hospital and later flown to Waikato Hospital. He was in a stable condition last night, a hospital spokeswoman said. "He had lost a lot of blood," Mr Smith said. "It is likely he will need cosmetic surgery to repair the wounds." The dog was impounded overnight but returned yesterday to its owner, in whose house the party was held. "It was a bit of a bitser. It was not a pit bull or anything. It was an old dog, it has been around for a long time," Mr Smith said. No charges would be laid. "All I can say is that people need to treat animals, especially dogs, with respect." Edited March 18, 2011 by CW EW

~Rumour~
What an idiot. Thankfully the dog was returned home, there was no reason that it should of been impounded
Kelly_Louise
"All I can say is that people need to treat animals, especially dogs, with respect." Amen to that. Very glad to hear that the dog was returned and neither it nor the owner punished.
tdierikx
Might have been a different story if it were in Australia though... I actually think it's pretty funny that the dog got it's own back with no real recriminations - never underestimate the stupidity of some humans... T. ozjen
Glad that the powers that be had the sense not to give the dog a death sentance. Another medical issue caused by people drinking too much, wonder if they will add this one to the adds on drinking.
Her Majesty Dogmad
The owner must know what his friends are like, I'd keep my dog out of harm's way. A colleague who shares a house with the owner and their dog told me that one of the owner's friends was giving the dog alcohol during a recent party. The dog was very sick afterwards but one of the other guests had really given the guest a piece of their mind when they caught them giving the dog alcohol. Lucky it wasn't fatal. Katie P
Some people.......BLAH! I just want to creep over to their house at night, bash them over the head with a shovel and hide the evidence by putting them in a hole in the woods which contain all the other idiots in the world. OSoSwift
That is why my dogs are ALWAYS put away if we have BBQ's or people over for tea. Then I know what they have eaten etc and they won't get fed cooked bones or something stupid. Good on the dog for biting, good the dog was released and no charges were layed. Moron who got bitten should have been charged with animal cruelty. I have also heard of a dog that a guest had picked up and was holding her around the chest and swinging her between his legs. His grip slipped he dropped the pup and damaged it's cruciate and it could never be shown and it's leg was never quite right. Personally I have roared at people doing stupid things to dogs and if it was my house they would be escorted off the property. But that is why I lock mine up
