Kobi'sDaisy
Just found some pine cones in the area and thought they would be some fun for Kobi. Then realised as he is a notorious chewer/eater of everything that he would go straight ahead and try and eat it! Is it bad? We know he eats sticks and things a bit and cant stop him when we're not around. Just wanting to know if he can continue his fun with his new toy? thanks
Bjelkier
My dogs have always chewed pine cones and no one has had any issues so far but my dogs chew and spit out, no one swallows them. Lestat the Lab did get ill from eating too many freash pine needles however, that can make them sick if they eat enough of them.
corvus
They are recommended on house rabbit sites/lists as rabbit toys, so I gather that means they are harmless to chew.
pipsqueak
according to this the pine oil can be an irritant to dogs. I'd also be concerned about my dog swallowing a cone and causing an obstruction http://www.ehow.com/facts_5892015_pine-pin...oning-dogs.html
jm266
YES!! They can be. My BC used to love playing with Pine Cones until he snorted a piece the size of my little fingernail. It got stuck up back of his nose, and took four weeks to diagnose and 45mins to remove by a specialist. It also considerably lightened my wallet. Pine Cones are now treated as sticks in this household, they are not for playing with AT ALL!!!
sas
My pups have always loved them, they are allowed them under supervision.

CreamyPuff
I think it would be ok under supervision only. One of our dogs was accidently given a corn cob which got stuck in her intestines and had to be sugucally removed. If your dog is large enough to bite off a big chunk of pine cone it could possibly have the same result. Not only was our dog in pain before and during her recovery but the vet bill wasn't very nice either!
