Retraining Stud Dog

I have a boy who had a couple of natural matings his first times but then had AI's due to difficult maiden bitches. Now he appears to be "lazy" when it comes to mating. He is quite keen when the girl is bought to him and goes through all the right motions, but just seems to be waiting for the vet to "give him a hand " so to speak. Is there anything you can suggest to help get him back on track. I would really love for him to start natural matings again. Also I would like to freeze my other boys semen, but I'm worried that this might happen with him too - although he has had a number of natural matings.

If he was mine I would put him in with a bitch in season and just leave him to it. I'm sure he will remember how to do it after a while especially with no one around for him to rely on. Even if you stand where he can't see you, the bitch should be able to encourage him to mate. Sometimes we just interfere too much I think.

All our stud dogs are taught to be handled & are also taught to mate on a table or the floor

Just help him when the time comes he isn't broken or lazy .

Our dogs are never left on there own to mate & we are always there to ensure things go safely as do all our friends
