ncarter
My dog swallowed a small stick this morning, by small i mean the size of a smallish woodchip, but he is a small dog. Im sure it was small enough to go through his esophagus into his stomach. Im just a bit worried that it wont break down enough in his stomach for him to pass it through the rest of his digestive tract. So im wondering if wood breaks down much in the stomach or if there is anything I can give him??? He has eaten sticks before and then passed stools no problem. So im not sure if i should take him to the vet or wait a day or so and see what happens
megan_
If he was my dog I'd leave it for the time bieng, but watch for signs of obstruction (all or one of salivating, pacing, panting etc) and rush to the vet immediately if these happen. If I'm ever in doubt I give my vet or the emergency vet a call and they always let me know if it is okay just to observe or bring them in.
