hilaryo
I know surgical AIs are a relatively minor procedure than for example a spey operation and I've just been unlucky in my case to have some problems with my bitch afterwards. It's interesting though that I have since found out another beagle breeder here in Qld had similar problems with her girl twice - she did have a normal mating resulting in puppies in-between - but no puppies from both surgical AI's. Fern's experience was not minor, won't do it again on her. What happened with Fern Rebanne?

That's so sad to Hear Anne We have a bitch that had 2 done...with no problems before or after.... she had 10 pups the 1st time and 9 the second. It SHOULD be a minor surgery. Then again if its the person i think that did it I can fully understand why you wouldn't do it again.... So glad to see she came through it ok

The incision was huge, as big as her subsequent c-section one, she reacted badly to something, the sutures or the antiseptic, and she was red raw until the stitches came out, lost huge amount of weight, she just didn't do well. Once the stitches were out she bounced back. When she had her c-section, different vet, there was no reaction at all. Could have happened after any surgery but it will be TC from now on, if needed. Not good Glad to hear Fern recovered Anne. In my case I don't believe it was anything to do with the vet or the way the procedure was carried out - just one of those thing. BOSSFACE
We have done a surgical AI on one of our bitches twice. She had puppies both times.....though only smaller litters (4 & 5). She handled the procedure very well both times. The first was done by Frozen puppies, the second by Robert Zammit.
laneka
I have a bitch here who is one of 12 from frozen imp semen. Mother was a maiden and Rob Zammit did the surgical AI. I have used froz semen with another of my bitches and she had no problem at all. I did chose an elective ceaser as she had problems whelping the time before. She had 7 lovely babies.
