mcnarkis
Hello, We are lucky enough to have adopted 2 ruby cavalier brothers, who are now 10 weeks old. I have been working from home the last couple out of sight from the puppies and noticed that they seem to be barking a fair bit at each other. This is different from the usual 5 minutes of whining when one of us leaves the room. From my spying on them, the barking appears to be when they are chasing each other around, or play fighting. Since we live in an apartment (with a big, covered balcony), we are concerned about noise while we are not around. Is this just a phase they are going through as puppies with all their playful energy, or is it something to be concerned about? Is there anything we can do about it? Also do you have any tips for raising brothers? Things like eating at separate times, same / different bowl, timing toilet breaks, etc? Thanks! I hear images are a must, so here goes:
spitzbaby
Very cute!! Barking while playing could be a normal thing, I have never own a cavalier but my dog growls while running around the house by himself. If you've only just brought them home, maybe you can ask the neighbor whether they bark when you're not around and how bad it is. You can even ask the security. Are they inside or outside when you go out?
W Sibs
OMG... they are soooo cute!!!! Puppies barking and growling while playing is normal. It's like kids yelling and laughing while playing. They can get loud!!! If you are worried about the neighbours while you are out, you can separate them in different crates or different places in the apartment (it's also a good idea to teach them to be on their own too and not be too dependent on each other ) Personally, I love it and won't do anything to discourage it (only step in when things get too much). My little girl is the growler while my boy is the barker. I know they are having a great time when they get really loud... Nekhbet
puppies are noisy, in fact you should not be trying to stop them! They need to get out their energy and enthusiasm its natural canine play separation is a good thing. Teaching them now to sleep in separate crates would be my idea, and spend time with one while the other munches a bone/eats dinner. Sharing is good but I dont allow dogs to eat out of each others bowls or steal food from each other.
Maxarch
Hi... Your puppies are adorable, sorry I had to jump on here and say that... I am of no real help for you though with the barking thing, all I can say is our 2 pups do the same thing, its settled down alot now (its been 5 weeks) but they are still noisy at certain times during the day (or night) when they are playing. persephone
Puppies NEED to run, bark, growl... Dogs are vocal creatures....and this need will stay with them for some time. having two in an apartment would not be my choice, as it could be very restrictive for them make sure they can have their run/play time together - it is essential for development. Talk with the neighbours...perhaps there are times during the day/evening when noise can be enjoyed

Elsha_UK_AU
My 2 Cavaliers bark and whine and "talk" to eachother for hours! My older boy (2) has this weird playfight bark ... he sounds like chewbacca from starwars and my younger boy (1) has this high pitched yipping noise which has not changed from when he was a little pup. They playfight, bark, snap at eachother and then roll around on the floor seeing who can bite the most body parts of the other...then suddenly they stop....take a breather, lick eachother...lick themselves and then suddenly as if by silent consent...they start playfighting allover again. Your pups are completely normal and unfortunately I don't think you are going to successfully stop them as they are doing what comes naturally. As for feeding - I feed mine seperately as 1 of mine is a gutz and he will eat his and then eat the others whilst wimpy boy sits there and watches his dinner get eaten Anyway, good luck! 2 Pups!!!! WOW.... I found it hard with a 12 month old and a 10 week old Gorgeous pics by the way - loved the sleeping one!
