(this one http://www.politepaws.com.au/store/index.p...products_id=382) And if so what do you think of it? How does the material triangle compare to a chain? Does it slide as smoothly/sharply/evenly or does it snag? Do you find it easier/less fiddly than a regular (one piece) martingale? Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I would have preferred if one side came out of the loop so I could wrap the collar around the neck rather then slide it over the head (if that makes sense) ... because my boys have boofy heads which means I had to adjust the size of the collar, fit it over the head and then readjust the size of the collar. Boofhead dog here too and I get sick of the constant fiddling with the regular mart, tend to use the prong 90% of the time because it's so much easier to put on. Kei also has a habbit of screaming like a banshee if his ear so much as touches the chain section so I need a well fitted collar that wont slide around. Tilly Posted February 25, 2011 Share Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) I also use the prong (with quick release) but use a "dominant dog collar" as a back up ... sometimes I just use the DDC just by itself as it is the easiest to put on and it isn't as heavy as a check chain. I don't use the DDC as they are designed to be used ... but mainly as a backup for even the regular flat collar as he can't slip out of this collar. I think the main reason being that I can feel and hear the progress of my check. It is probably just a case of being used to it and therefore the reason why it is the most comfortable for me. Starkehre Posted February 26, 2011 Share Posted February 26, 2011 SK, I have been using them for years and love 'em I fit them similarly to the DDC, so there is little correct needed and used and it is always up high and tort. Love them for quick refreshing of nice heeling patterns if dog is getting lazy and falling out of drive. In saying that, I rarely apply any correct to the collar, but if I do, very little action is needed, and like I say it is exactly where I want it to be if needed. Even with a boofy Rotti head and wearing them firm up behind the ears, I never have to do any adjusting to get it on and off, just unclip the lead to separate the rings. I also have the regulat training collars (non-heavy futy with the plastic clips) and have never had one of them break. I have both styles in all sizes. would never be without them. The press stud comes ondone, but it really does not even need to be done up, unless your dog is removed from off the lead. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It was ok but I didn't think it provided a lot more correction than a flat collar on my dog and was a hassel getting off a dog with pricked ears (GSD) I found, as the adjustment for correct use was too tight to get over his ears comfortably when taking it off and he would pull out and shake his head often as I tried to remove it. Adjusting it whilst wearing was a bit fiddly and now I just use a fursaver chain cut to length and held on by the leash clasp through the end links immobilising the corrective action for a quick release on and off and prefer that to the martingale Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It was not good for correction- but then, she had an EXTREMELY high threshold. It was pretty flimsy, but then you'd likely need a larger one for a RR and maybe they are tougher?
