piper
We often read and hear about the disastrous puppy enquiries but not the great 1s. I know I am being spolit as I am yet to breed my first litter (hurry up with your season Jazz!!!) and the first serious enquiry I have had sounds great so far. These people contacted me last year looking for something for this year and I said that yes I hope to have something pending Jazz coming into season etc. I said I would update my webpage with details once a litter was confirmed. 4 months on they have emailed again to ask where things are at. I once again let them know that I am waiting her coming into season (expected last month) and the reply was that it was fine ans they understand it is not like getting a car - you cant just go and pick it up and they have been looking for years and can wait some more. I know I am being lulled into a false sense of security and it will not always be this good. LOL. I seriously hope they are still around when she finally does oblige me with a season and that we then get a sucessful mating. Fordogs
Early days, I really hope that you do not end up disillusioned. I have a litter at the moment and right now I am really fed up with puppy buyers. They want a puppy BUT don't want to leave a deposit, want to show, have pick or at least 2nd pick puppy. Want me to export but expect ME to do all of the organizing. NO talk of paying for extras. Expecting me to hold onto puppy for extra time with no deposit. I have bred 8 litters and this is the first time I have wanted to say *%*&%##77 Sorry for the bad language.
piper
That is more what I am expecting. After some of the horror stories I have heard this is a pleasant surprise but most definitely not an expectation
Wilderblu
Yeh I'm about over them at the moment. We need more pedigree litters in SA. I've had people wait well over a year. Come and meet me and the dogs. Really lovely people contacting me regularly. Pups are born and they are still keen then when the pups are 6 weeks old they send me an email with a photo of their new pup the purchased out of the paper. Lots of people give up waiting and buy a BYB pup. But there are some fabulous puppy buyers like most of my last year pups get together and organise puppy get togethers down the beach and we all have a fabulous time talking border collies!! It does make up for all the "hard work" buyers There's ups and downs but far more ups than downs!! Can't wait for you to have your first litter Piper!! Woohoo!! dancinbcs
Most of my puppies over the years have gone to absolutely wonderful homes. I have never had anyone breed without asking my opinion first, most just want to desex their pets. I had to buy one dog back from a highly recommended buyer that I had a bad feeling about, who lied to me and had to rehome another at 12 months when his owner's life fell apart. There were two oops litters with bitches sold to new show homes, when something jumped their fences. One opted to just desex after that and the other went on to breed a nice purebred litter under my prefix before ultimately desexing her girl. Another, that unfortunatley had silent seasons, was sold to a first time breeder and had a surprise litter earlier than planned, but at least to the right dog. I have had a few jerks stuff me around for weeks and a few that I have just decided when I met them, that they weren't suitable. But I am always glad to be left in the lurch with a puppy, rather than have sold it to someone that turned out to be unreliable. My last litter I had one show/performance potential puppy left to sell and 6 wonderful buyers to choose from, none of whom could have lived with this particular puppy, so I had to refer them all to other breeders. I waited until I found a very active family with a large yard who really suited her. They only wanted a pet so desexed her. You do get a lot of tyre kickers and I am always careful to not give them my address and tell them that there is always someone home with the puppies, even if there isn't. I worry about them being stolen so they are kept well locked up at night and if we do all go out. Only after several phone conversations do I allow people to visit, I never take deposits and never promise a puppy to anyone until they are 6-7 weeks to give me time to pick who I am keeping, decide who suits which puppy best and give me the option to back out if I decide I really don't like a buyer.
