k9angel
A man and a dog have been hit and killed by a train near Gowrie railway station at Fawkner, in Melbourne's north. Police are at the scene and train services on the Upfield line have been suspended. A police spokesperson at the scene said it was still unclear how the man came to be hit. "At this stage we don't believe the male was using the pedestrian crossing," he said. He believed the man, who was not wearing shoes, may have been trying to retrieve the unleashed dog from the tracks when they were hit by the train about 5.50am. Metro investigators arrived at the scene about 6.30am. The police spokesperson said the driver was "understandably shaken" and Metro had organised counselling for him. Metro says buses are replacing trains on the line until they open again about 8.30am. The death comes just three days after a 70-year-old woman was killed after she stepped around a crossing gate into the path of a train at Bentleigh station. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/break...illed-by-train/ So sad for both of them. The man lost his life, trying the save the life of a poor, frightened dog. May they both R.I.P. Edited February 14, 2011 by k9angel
