LizT
She can probably buy a Golden Noodle at the Noodle Box. Seriously, can't they see how ridicuolous that sounds? Who would want a dog called a Goldenoodle? Actually it's worse..I rechecked her email and its a "Goldendoodle"!!! Sounds like a male nudists been sunbathing! Aren't the called "Groodles" here?? LizT
Sigh........Glad I'm not the only one!!!I'm just so frustrated as she has spent so much time researching... Well, your sister must have missed this article in the science section of the Guardian newspaper (UK based). The man who first crossed labradors with poodles (labradoodle) to try to get 'better' guide dogs, says that it was not a bright idea at all. It didn't produce 'better' guide dogs, but he says it led to an explosion of crossing poodles with all sorts of breeds, to get unlimited 'oodles'. He says many of them have problems....& lots more. Yes....'groodles' are mentioned. He regrets, with a passion, what he started. So tell your sister to lock herself in the bathroom & go nowhere to buy a puppy, until she's read this article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2010/nov...ors-idea-regret Thanks Mita I was looking for this! Gayle.
Oooooh a Golden Doodle! They're available in quite sizeable quantity in Kings Cross, I believe. If she looks hard enough she can probably find other metals as well. Copper doodle, iron doodle, brass doodle.
LizT
I got to see the litter my pup came from at 2, 4 and 6 weeks so that comment is not entirely true. My breeder was absolutely ethical and responsible. I know its frustrating- can't choose your family. I'm sure your breeder is and I'm sure they took precautions such as not letting you touch the puppies at two weeks and making you remove your shoes, asking you not to come via another breeder or dog park etc. etc. Also 2 weeks is a most crucial time, the pups have turned their first corner and have started to build up immunity from their mum....still I know of many breeders who would follow my prerequisite of only essential visitors (friends and family) and not a parade of potential buyers. From the picture she sent me this is a large litter of about 12 puppies, that's a lot of possible visitors. IMHO too many.

OSoSwift
You can't reason with stupid. Yeah, but there 's something very frustrating in stupidity in the intellectual! But that's a whole other "thread" LOL Yep I fully understand. Sometimes highly intellegent people have no common sense.
Staranais
Maybe ask about why she has decided to get one of these dogs, rather than one of the component breeds (or another breed entirely). She might have some reasonably sensible (if uninformed) reasons, and if you listen to her concerns you may also be able to talk her round. ETA - my sister also bought a crossbreed puppy recently. I thought her reasons & choices were sensible enough, although it's not a decision I would have made. The dog is very nice too, and so far appears healthy. Gayle.
When you think about it, a Golden Doodle sounds like something a bloke might get from sleeping with a high class hooker. An expensive sexually transmitted disease.
indigirl
Advise her to start saving for the possible multitude of health problems it may have, oh and teh behaviourist she may well need if the dog wasnt socialised properly as a puppy. My brother has two 'spoodles' - yappy little dumb things the pair of them, but what can you do?
Mrs Rusty Bucket
My dog and I did puppy pre-school with a "Groodle" GR x Poodle. It was HUGE at 2 months old. The owner kept saying she was told it was a GR crossed with a small poodle but it looked to the rest of us like GR x Standard Poodle and was showing every sign of being every bit as big as a big GR. It went from being "boss puppy" in a previous group of puppies, to hiding under the owner's (or anybody else's) chair during most of the puppy classes with my ACDx puppy (who was the smallest) and a malamute puppy (who was the naughtiset). And I'm pretty sure it shed fur just like a GR.

One is pretty much the ugliest dog I have ever seen with a hideous coat that looks like a pot scrubber, the others are nothing to write home about. One looks more poodly, the other looks more retriever like but they all look like mutts.

See this is part of what's pissing me off! She said she would dearly like a Standard Poodle but they would be too big!! ;) If she said she was getting one from a shelter I would care as much but she is going to a "Goldendoodle" breeder. The odds of the dog being bigger than a GR are pretty good. If she got a SP bitch, there are plenty of smaller ones. She's buying a genetic lottery. That's fine if you like gambling on a family pet. Danois
From the rules: No promotion of cross breeds / designer dogs This site has nothing against cross breeds (most of us have had one at some stage in our life), however we are against the promotion of them as being superior to the purebred dog and people cashing in on the 'designer dog' craze. We also ask that you refrain from unnecessary designer dog discussion. (ie discussion that has no real purpose other than to express dismay at the latest 'cross breed' you saw (or read about)). Sure, we all know they are out there, but we prefer to concentrate on discussing the pure bred dog (ANKC recognised breeds).
raineth
if she likes the poodle but standard is too big - why don't you talk her into a mini poodle? ;) lots of lovely colours to choose from as well

Maybe she is planning to get one from a standard poodle and a teacup golden retriever. If she's going to a goldendoodle breeder, anything's possible and anyone who buys from such a person will believe anything they're told.
