PAX
One of my dogs. that lives indoors, dribbles all over the kitchen floor after he drinks. I keep a towell under the water bowl and another towell to clean up the drips. How do other people manage this problem? I have nearly slipped so many times sliding in the drips. ;) Have also got outdoor water bowls but the water indoors must taste better. :p ETA for typos Edited February 12, 2011 by PAX

Janba
I have one of those. I just walked past the water bowl and stood in a puddle of water ;) I know which dog it is but how do you stop one dog from making a watery mess, I don't know. I just mop up the puddles when I find them and keep the water bowl on a surface that isn't very slippery when wet.
wuffles
Yep, we have a towel. They still drip all the way from the tiles across the towel to the carpet ;) I always warn people when we visit their houses as well :p
LizT
;) I have "ear dippers"! I use a Spaniel Bowl for inside, so no dipping ears in it. Try putting A chamois under the bowl area. More absorbent than a towel.
Danois
I have this issue too ;) I use a towel underneath. I have seen someone use an oil drip tray under the bowl which is a good idea.
Alyra
Yep, towel under the bowl here too. My pup makes such a mess otherwise!
MadWoofter
I've got a big bowl in the kitchen, one in the bathroom, and a couple of buckets in the backyard. They will always come inside to drink and the hotter (and puffier) Tess is the more she dribbles. Mind you it's not too bad, and I usually have a couple of hand towels (or used tea towels) lying around and I just wipe her chin before the drool gets too bad. Today, for the first time ever, she got so excited she put her foot in the water bowl & tipped it all over the floor. Lucky I've got old hand & tea towels in the kitchen (or in the laundry ready for washing) which I used to mop up the mess. Old towels are the only thing you can use. If you've got a dribbler you need a couple on the floor, and a couple on hand to wipe their face. I've got friends with a rather slobbery GD and they walk around with the corner of an old tea towel stuffed through a belt loop purely to dry up drool. I don't wash them too often, when they get wet I hang them on the line to dry and use them again & again before washing them (that sounds gross, but they're not dirty as such, just a bit wet & manky !!) Ah, the joys of a jowelly dog !!
PAX
The towell works but the drips go all the way to the loungroom:(( Guess I just have to live with it ;)
Parkeyre
I keep our big water bucket in the bathroom; at the furthest point from the door, rather then in the kitchen on the lovely new floorboards.
Golden Rules
Another here who has the same problem .... and when I give the boys a bowl of milk each, look what happens! Sorry about the sound ;) Edited February 12, 2011 by Golden Rules
Katdogs
Ancient, never quite finished properly floorboards in the kitchen, so not too slippery underfoot. Water dribble isn't as slippery as 'please please feed me now' drool. Now that stuff's dangerous! The stains have just added to the 'character' of our house ;)
sparkycat
I have a Catit drinking fountain inside and the dogs and cats love it but splash water all over the place. I put a large plastic lid off a cheap shop tub underneath the drinking fountain and it does stop the floor getting soaked.
silentchild
Ugh I use so many towels it's ridiculous... but the water still manages to get onto the floorboards underneath and then it leaves a horrid stain. I have to resort to moving the water bowl every few weeks so its in a new position frequently enough to avoid staining the floors. An absolute nightmare - I wish there was a better solution! ;)
whiskedaway
I have a slightly different problem. My dogs don't drip the water all over the floor, they SPLASH it all over the floor. We have a doggy door so they just have to go outside to get a drink now. However, when I'm at work it's a problem because we fill up three - five bowls of water depending on how hot it is and they've splashed it everywhere by the time we get home and have probably had no water for three hours. Anyone have a suggestion of a non-splash water bowl?
Shazzapug
Same same...warning when wearing crocks....specially when ya land on a food bowl, and squash the bowl. ;)

Gspsplease
My first GSP would drink and then lick her lips carefully before raising her head from the bowl -- and I never appreciated that or realised how rare it was! My 2nd and 3rd both drink and walk away with water streaming from their lips. Look on youtube for a slow motion film of dogs and cats drinking -- it's amazing how different their methods are -- cats lick up water onto the top of their tongues and close the tongue around it, dogs pull the water onto the bottom of their tongue and somehow carry it into their mouths -- it's amazing more water doesn't end up on the floor. Esky the husky
Inside we have a DOG IT 10litre water fountain. We couldn't hack the water all over the floor and it was a good solution. Diggers can still dig / splash in the top reservoir, so we solved that by putting a plastic bowl on top. The animals can still access the water that cascades down the side. Outside we have a bucket. Although she can splash in it, she's never tipped it over, so there is always water available
FHRP
I have two snorkelers who seem to get more water on the floor than in their stomach. Their dribble strings after a drink are also quite impressive. Polo especially seems to take a mouthful and then walk away spitting it all back out ;) 90% of the time I just plain don't have a water bowl inside! I have water outside and a doggy door for them to access it. If I do have water inside it's in one of the non-spillable bowls with the smaller opening so my boys can not snorkel. They still manage to dribble a bit, but not as much. Edited February 12, 2011 by FHRP
