Are frozen chicken frames bad for dogs, or should they be defrosted first. I was not sure of the splinter factor of the bones when frozen even though these are RAW.

Not too sure. Good quedtion though. If I give my dogs frozen bones they tend to be lamb necks or roo tails, something with some meat on them so by the time they have slobbered all over it an gnawed at it for a while hopefully the bone part will be defrosted.

I have fed mine semi frozen and have never had a problem so I should think that it should not be a great problem.

I always defrost mine & give them a soak in warm water, to bring them to room tempereture, only warm water though so as not to change the bone structure to cooked. mine seem to digest warm to room temp food so much better & I always serve it immediatley.

In my opinion giving your dog frozen chicken frames is OK. They especially love it on hot days. :D I have never had any problems.

I read a thread on DOL a couple of months ago when there was a heat wave and most doggy people gave their dogs frozen bones and had no problems with this.

Our boys get frozen chicken frames all the time - never had a problem.

We were defrosting them at one stage but they seem to last one second longer when frozen

I feed my girl frozen frames/necks/wings and beef bones... but I DO run them under cold water so she doesn't get frost bite on her tongue

Yep, both mine get frozen bones on occasion... it's the only food that last more than two seconds!

Mine get frozen chicken wings with no problems.... In fact I've seen friends who have had problems with gulpy dogs move to frozen bones with success because they have to chew them more when they are frozen.... Helps teach them to chew properly.....

And, as everyone else has pointed out, my dogs love their "chicksicles" on a hot day!!

I may feed my own dogs semi frozen frames.

Remember too, wholesale human consumption poultry are butchered young, so the bones are quite soft.

I would not feed older carcasses donated from a friendly neighbour, for this reason.

My chicken frames come from a chicken processor here where I live I was wondering how much do you all pay for yours I pay a whopping 35 cents per kilo just interested that is all.

I pay 50 cents for a bag of 4 Frames and or 50 cents a kilo for bones.

The shop is in Dandenong/Noble Park.

Most of the chickens that are processed for the table are very young.

Size 12 chicken is about 5-6 weeks old

Size 18 chicken is about 8 weeks old.

I pay too much for my chicken frames! I think I pay a minimum of 50c per frame.

I buy them from Woolworths, mainly because it is the closest place [to the best of knowledge], where chicken frames are sold

Our kids get Chicken Frames once a week. We only pay 90c per kg.

We leave them in the oven with just the fan on to defrost them.. No heat...

They love them! Mind you, the poms have a bit of trouble getting through one!

i used to work at a boarding kennels where they bought the chicken frames for 1 dollar for bout 12 frames the frames were poor quality and i spent most the time ripping the chunks of fat off them

I go to Woolworths and pay about a dollar for each whole frame. Must be living in the most expensive suburb.

Thanks for the advice about feeding them frozen as one of my dogs does not chew just inhales, maybe this will teach him.
