A light plane carrying two people and a dog has crashed onto a roadway in Sydney's west.

Emergency services were called to Brenan Street, Smithfield, at 12:30pm after numerous reports of a plane crashing onto the road.

Police arrived at the scene to discover a single-engine aircraft on its roof. A man and a woman, possibly aged in their 20s, travelling in the plane along with a dog were uninjured.

The aircraft brought down power lines during the crash causing localised power disruptions. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Brenan Street is currently closed to all traffic between the Cumberland Highway and Bourke Street.

At this stage the cause of the crash is not known and inquiries into the aircraft's departure point and destination are continuing.

My goodness, that's luck!

I'm just listening to the story on ABC News Radio. One resident is saying that the plane nearly took her out. Everyone said they were amazed to see the 2 people & the dog get themselves out of the upside down plane.
