Hi

I am very raley on DOL any more but figured you guys are a wealth of knowledge and should be able to help me out here. A dog I breed 3 years ago has come back into my care. I am greatful that the owners called me before taking him to the RSPCA but I cannot keep him and I'm not sure how the best way to home him is.

I have done some rescue (I have one ATM) but I'm not comfortable putting him on a rescue website as he isn't really a rescue. I don't really want him around for to long as when ever I look at him I think of his Mum that died in very tragic circumstances just before christmas.

Any suggestions welcomed

PS he is a Rough coat JRT

There is nothing wrong with calling him a rescue...many times the word is implied to mean that the dog has come from a bad situation, however it shouldn't be that way. He is in fact a rescue as if he did not come to you, he would have gone to the pound. Who bred him, doesn't matter, other than you can give more insight to someone interested, when it comes to the back ground of the dog.

Do you have a breed club/rescue? They often have homes waiting for adult dogs.

Tell other breeders you know as again, they may have had enquiries from someone looking for an older dog. Times like these, use the breeder network.

DOL Mature Dog section has worked for us over the years. We have always had a preponderance of good quality enquirers and, I think in all cases, that the dog has gone to someone that came to us via DOL.

I have also put adult dogs on Gumtree and Trading Post, but since I have GSDs, from these sources I tend to get enquiries from people that want a cheap "guard dog" rather than a family member.

You just have to be careful with your screening no matter what medium you use for advertising .
