Does anyone know of a really good vet in the Brisbane / Ipswich area? I am looking for a vet who has really good knowledge, experience and success in treating suspected Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Someone who can best advise me on diet and medication, maybe open to alternative treatments or diets I haven't yet considered and help my girl enjoy a long, happy and healthy life, She's only 4 and it makes me so sad and distressed when she's not well  Thank you.

hi there, can't help with the vet but I can offer you some advice - my boy was eventually diagnosed with IBD after many tests. He was initially put on pred but it was terrible, his behaviour was unbearable and when I was thinking I couldn't go on after 2 years, i saw a different vet and she tried a couple of old drugs. One of them was great and he was on that for the next 5 years that he lived. It was 3 times a day (I do work) and he was on Hills Science diet which he didn't like. I occasionally gave him something differerent, perhaps once a week such as tuna and pasta.

I found a website written by a lady in the US and she gave her IBD dog pumpkin and sweet potato, my dog loved them. The vet had told me nothing else but the biscuits and it was very hard as my dog was a cruelty case, he'd been starved and food was very important to him.

He did end up on a drip a few times over the years, this was usually because he'd managed to get hold of some old discarded food in the park or something, as careful as I was, I didn't have control over this sort of thing/.

Best of luck, it's not an easy disease to manage, esp if likeme you have other dogs.

If you haven't already - join the IBDogs group on yahoogroups.

There's a wealth of info about canine IBD and a lot of support. A lot about diet - although discussion of 'out there' treatments are discouraged.

My local vet knew nothing about IBD - we just stuck with our lovely specialist (Sydney).

Finding food they can tolerate is so hard ... I hope you can find something that works for her quickly.

Hi There.

Timothy Rush & Associates. 468 Warwick Road Yamanto.

I have recently switched to them and they are very compassionate, friendly and really care about the health and well being of pets. I can not recommend them highly enough.

Can't help with a vet but I have a cat with IBD ..... we used some herbal remedies from Robert McDowell as well as Slippery Elm Powder made into a liquid. This did help, but I had to also find a food she could tolerate as well.

As for dogs ... I have one with a sensitive tummy and use Protexin for him and also have had to find a food he will tolerate. Have only just started the Protexin last week but it seems to be making a difference.

I didn't know about the yahoo group, that sounds like a great idea to get more info! ;)
