Rileys mum
Hi guys, bit of a noob question but im new to the dog sports world How does one find out where and when clinics are being held? Im really wanting to further my knowledge this year (well every year to be honest but this year im really taking it more seriously) I am very keen to attend as many clinics as possible but only seem to find out about them once they are all sold out. Sooooooo is there a secret clinic booking place i need to go to????
Mrs Rusty Bucket
Um. You make friends with someone into dog sports in your area? But I figure you find out about one clinic and then sign up with the people that organised it, to let you know when the next one is on. Might take a while but you'll eventually get in. Another way might be to put your name down with the ones you know are "sold out" in case someone has a personal emergency and has to drop out. There's no single secret clinic list that I know of. Most of them are organised by individuals who invite people they know from doing their sport to come. I don't know of any dog sport clinics in SA in the near future either. The last one I went to was organised by Cathy Slot of Agility click and held in NSW. http://www.agilityclick.com/ There is a (dog free) seminar being given by Paul McGreevy in Adelaide in Feb run by these people http://www.petagog.net/workshops.htm There's also an agility forum - that I forget to look at on yahoo groups somewhere. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/SAdogagility/ Some of the people who post there also do herding... I don't know if they have posted about clinics or not. Or you can look up the individual dog sport associations and ask them. What secret clinic have you missed out on because it was sold out? I'm all curious now.
Rileys mum
Hey thanks for the info. I'll have to put my socializing shoes on and meet some new folks. Re sold out clinics: No clinics specific to sa. Only ones that I hear about on here that are either sold out by the time I find them or in states I can't make it to. Sorry. Didn't really explain that well.
ness
SA don't tend to get very many clinics unless its as MRB says and they are mostly organized by individuals. The most recent ones I can think of <aside from the ones organised by Petagog which are mostly dog free events> would be: The K9 Pro workshop in May last year. That was advertised both on Steve's website and through DOL. It was organized by an individual after perceived demand. There was a Sue Hogben obedience and agility clinic in 2009 organized by the SA Obedience and Agility Advisory committee but I know that was initiated by an individual originally. That one was advertised via Dogs SA. Dover Gardens Obedience Club apparently are keen on organizing workshops if people are interested but that I was told via the grapevine and not sure if they have anything in the pipeline or not. I know they were at one stage looking at hosting a Rally-O workshop but that never went ahead. ETA. I know you don't have a herding breed but herding clinics are often advertised via email directly to people who are interested or who have expressed an interest in the past via the people organizing them. They will also occasionally be advertised in the Dogs SA journal. Edited February 3, 2011 by ness
caffy
You can consider popping over to Perth. We have Daisy Peel coming at the end of May. PM me if you want more details.
