Dog Limping Still

At the start of January I posted about my dog limping when he came back from the kennels. I took him to the vet who said that he had sprained his elbow and gave him some anti-inflams.

Over the past month the issue has continued to come and go. He'll be fine for a few days then if he's been lying around for a while it obviously gets sore and he starts limping again. It has ranged just from a slight limp to not bearing weight on it at all. It appears to be better if he keeps moving around on it.

Over the last 3 days it has been really really hot here (over 42) so I haven't walked the dogs and it has become worse. He's limping alot and does not weight bear on it frequently after lying down. I have booked him into the chiropractor but can only get in on Saturday week.

Would you go back to the vet again before the Chiro appt? I do go to a vet that is VERY highly regarded and I do think does a good job but I just never feel like I leave with any definitive answers so I am a bit hesitant to make another appointment.

Hmmm Kiesha I would wait until you can get him into Matthew - vets will just give you more anti-inflams and tell you to rest.

I know what your going through though - Kenz is doing my head in over it at the moment and it sounds very very similar. Kenz is fine when she has been doing stuff but when we come home and she has been off sleeping she is really bad.

I will have to get her to Matthew when I can.

Yeah that was the plan but he just seems to be so sore today and I think I'm starting to panic since it's been going on for so long! The poor little guy seems so miserable too.

I wish I'd just gone to Matthew when you first gave me the recommendation ness. Safe to say "I told you do" I think!

I think I'll take him for a short walk tomorrow to loosen things up and see how he goes. Resting just seems to make it worse.

Hope You get to the bottom of kenzie's limp Ness coz I know exactly what you mean about doing your head in!!!

I also went to a "highly regarded" vet many years ago 3 times for the same thing on my dog, it was misdiagnosed 3 times by the same vet, 3 different things he came up with !!!!!. Sometimes highy regarded arent really that imho. Having said that, a revisit may be on the cards for a further investigation if the vet is worth their salt they will give you the time of day to investigate.

Having said that  anti inflam and pain killers are only usefull for the interim period of healing, his management at home is crucial, it is like a person that has sprained something it can take a long time and you are allowed to do this and not that etc.

Mathew Condon is brilliant i used to go to him for my dogs back when he first started out until i moved i would not hesitate to get you dog in to see him

a friend of mine has a mastiif x and she has had a limp for years now with no diagnosis...

vets, specialists etc are unable to find why she limps....

I know this is no help but sometimes a cause is not found or is very difficult to pin point...

hope you find out what it is

My girl who gets really bad trigger points is exactly the same, especially if she has been active and then lays down for a while . She limps and is very stiff.

We are very lucky and have a vet who does trigger point therapy, and this fixes her.

Anti inflammatories have no effect as it is not a joint issue but soft tissue
