woody2shoes
Hi, A friend of mine has a dog with sarcoptic mange. I've offered her some of our oral ivomec to treat her dog but don't know what dosage rate is used for mange. We use it for heartworm & parasite control and I gather that's quite different. Can anyone help me please? FYI the ivomec strength is 0.8g/L. Thanks in advance. Cheers, w2s
Staff'n'Toller
Might be best to call one of the well established Vets in your area. I have some here but no dose rates, it's different according to weight, age and type of dog.
poodlefan
What breed is the dog? Personally I'd recommend your friend seek advice from her vet on this.
Winterpaws
You really should get advice from a vet on this one. We always had to start it at the lower dose and then you gradually increase over a period of time to the desired dosage level Just remember it can kill some breeds! cowanbree
If it is a herding type breed don't use it as it is deadly to them
Crisovar
I would be seeking Vet advice on this, I really hate dosages and instructions for off label use of potentially dangerous products being bandied about on the net.
Montage
You shouldn't be providing someone elses dog with medication unless you're qualified to make that judgement. Unless of course you're happy to take responsibility if the dog dies.
Mystiqview
I agree with the others. The treatment for Mange can also affect the dog if it is on certain flea/heartworm products. It can effectively cause an overdose. Tell them to see the vet.
Nekhbet
Ivemectin will always be off label use for dogs. NEVER use it on someone elses dogs, if you want to risk your own thats your business but tell them to go to a vet. It is true, some other flea products used with it can cause harmful side effects to the dog. Edited February 1, 2011 by Nekhbet
stormie
Has it been diagnosed via scraping by a Vet? Edited February 2, 2011 by stormie
woody2shoes
Thank you all for your input. My friend has obtained the dosage rate from her vet who happily gave it to her over the phone. I might add that we were both well aware of the possible risks involved when I offered her the Ivermectin and she was quite prepared to take responsibility for her own dog's health and well being. At no stage did I attempt to force her to use the Ivermectin, nor did I suggest she shouldn't obtain advice from her vet on how to use it or its safety. However, she was experiencing some delays in getting that advice so I thought it was worth trying to get it online in a more timely manner. I was actually trying to help a friend out.
