Miranda Posted February 1, 2011 Share Posted February 1, 2011 Neonates lack a shivering reflex and this doesn't begin to develop until the puppies are about 6/8 days old, therefore it is important to regulate the temperature of the environment until the pups are 2/3 weeks of age. However the puppies are most at risk of hypothermia during the first week. Puppies can also suffer if temperatures are too high, but are able to pant even when very young.
