Guest
well if we are home his stays inside with us, but when we go out during the day or on the rare occasion we go out at night, he stays outside... however we have been having a possum visiting us most nights

We lock ours in the back room, or if we're out for dinner we crate the young one and leave the older one to free roam.
Guest
unfortunatly i dont have a crate... we used a playpen sort of thing when we were toiet training him, and that worked really well.. so we might have to give that a go
Sandra777
Leave him inside for sure, puppy pen or gate off a room. Wouldn't leave a dog loose outside at night around here - too many cane toads, bats and other beasties to get them excited and barking.
Guest
the thing is we dont actually go out that often both my partner and me work twice a month on a saturday night, other wise we are home or he comes with us. however because someone in our block of units has complained about a dog ( however they decribed the dog as black, ike is light brown) we have to take soem action, otherwise we will be told to leave. but the nights and especially the days have been getting really hot im not about to leave my dog inside the whole time either
Sandra777
but the nights and especially the days have been getting really hot im not about to leave my dog inside the whole time either He's probably cooler inside a well insulated house with some fans going than outside in a yard during the heat of the day anyway.... but it's not daytime that's causing an issue is it?? If he's fine during the day then don't worry, if he barks at night when the noctural creatures are about then for the sake of everyone's sanity, leave him inside at those times. People go to bed at some weird hours nothing more irritating than a yapping dog if you're trying to sleep

KumaAkita
We had an issue with our boy barking at night, even if we were home. Happened just as the weather warmed up and Kuma would let us know when people were coming and going. Not so fun. He's now crated inside at night. Much better for all of us really... I have read people on this forum who have set up a webcam and filmed their dogs whilst they're away - just to see what they get up to during the day. Most report loads of sleeping I'd just crate him while you're out, and perhaps think about making it permanent all night.

A puppy pen could possibly be climbed out of? A Crate should sort your problem out if it's because of possums, however if your dog is barking because it doesn't like being left alone that will require a different method. both my partner and me work twice a month on a saturday night, other wise we are home or he comes with us. Makes me wonder if your dog actually doesn't enjoy it when you leave, can you do some pretend leaves and wait outside and listen to see what he does? The crate will be his "safe" place - Harrison (the dog in my signature) LOVES his crate & will often go & sleep in it when the door's open.
