Rottsup
Hi everyone, I have just been given a quote to move Semen from SA to VIC. It is quite expensive to move one breeding worth of semen and they tell me it costs the same to move one or ten breedings. So I thought I would start a thread for people to place their movement requirements so others can contact to share a container so it is then cheaper for everyone. Not sure if you all think this is a good idea or not and people could only go on this list if they were not in a hurry, but my example is; Semen move from SA to VIC - cost (Inc GST) $265 - If there were 10 breedings of semen in that container it would cost $26.50 per breeding So if people indicate where their semen is to be moved to & from, say within a 4 to 8 week timeframe, then others can pm them and arrange for all to be moved. This might be a bit too complicated, but if anyone has any idea to help reduce the costs of moving semen in Aust, then please add your experiances. Cheers Rottsup Edited to change title and include international Edited February 1, 2011 by Rottsup
Chocolate
I think it is a great idea and hope this thread will be pinned or kept going as it would make it cheaper for everyone.
angelsun
I'm hoping to move some semen from QLD to VIC and within VIC (lilydale)to my own vet in the NE for storage, within the next few months. On this same thought...I have semen to come from Spain probably in March or april...if anyone knows anyone else wanting to share a shipper (Barcelona) contact me and we can try to coordinate and save some $$

Stolzseinrotts
Great idea Rottsup!!! Shipping semen is costly, whether it is domestic or international. The freight charge you have been given is rather good in comparison to what I paid to get semen from QLD to VIC. But at the end of the day sharing a container is much cheaper for all parties. Some of the costings I have had to bring semen in from OS has been rather scary. ;) Then you have all the bloods etc on top of that!!! Australia is very hard to get semen into the country from dogs in a Cat 4 country........ Edited February 2, 2011 by Stolzseinrotts
MissMonaro
I had semen shipped up from Sydney to Brisbane and it only cost $39 for same day service ?? Or are you guys referring more about frozen semen ? (obv the overseas stuff is, but I meant local) Edited February 3, 2011 by MissMonaro

(obv the overseas stuff is, but I meant local) Yes MissMonaro, my quote was to move frozen semen from SA to Vic. I am not sure why that would make such a huge difference in price as I believe chilled semen needs specialised carrying methods too. If you don't mind sharing , who did you use to move yours? MissMonaro
It was Australian Air Express and I checked the price on my receipt and it was actually $31.00 - that was airport to airport though. Rottsup
Okay, a little update.... After some research and many phone calls, I found a company (who mainly deals with Greyhounds) and operates "live animal" transport between QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and can also arrange to & from WA on occasions. As an extra to their service they will also pick up and deliver frozen semen and are much cheaper than Cryogenes & Sires on Ice therefore I don't have to wait to find someone to share a container with:thumbsup: I have checked out this carrier & they come recommended by the 3 repro specialists I have personally spoken with this week and all 3 of these vets use this carrier weekly, one in SA & two in Vic. This transport company is very busy and appears to be operated from the road so they are not always easy to get hold of, but my instructions were to leave a message and they will always get back to you within 24 hours. I did this and sure enough, a lovely lady called Dorothy phoned me back a few hours later.... the rest is history as my semen is coming over next Sat and the price was very reasonable. Contact GTE Transport - 0409434445 and speak with Dorothy I hope this is of some value to some of you. Cheers
Rottsup
I meant to update this again some time ago to let you know the outcome Semen was collected from vet in SA and delivered to vet in Vic as agreed for $100 Worth keeping these transporters in mind
