Welsh Springer Spaniels/cocker Spaniels ?

I have brittanys and have had labs, also know a lot of breeders of brittanys and labs. The labs are easier maintanance than the brittanys. The brittanys are more active and can be as much or more destructive. They don't shed nearly as much as a lab though, 3 brittanys shed less than 1 lab. Most brittanys are mad about birds and are great working dogs, but a lab purely as a retriever is hard to beat. Personally I would suggest a female lab for your brother. I had one here not much taller than my britts, but she was double their weight.

I didn't think there was anything more destructive than a Lab. Labs are more destructive than the worst BC and don't grow out of the destructive phase for years. Their size and strength means they can do some incredible damage if they feel so inclined. Maybe I have only met the destructive ones but when I read the book "Marley and Me', I just thought it is a normal Lab with a clueless owner.

The reality of it is they are going to get a dog and it will be a gundog so I am trying to find one that is the closest fit for them. I personally love the springers but they would be far too much in the way of coat for them.

The working line spaniels have very little coat to worry about. They do have the advantage of being lighter weight then a lab, so are more easy to take out and travel around with

I wouldn't class my Brittanys as destructive though, I consider myself very lucky when you hear some stories about what dogs get up to LOL

Missy isnt destructive either, but she is and has always been very energetic! lol

Im not into the Lab sloober though so prefer a Britt on the couch with me then a Lab (sorry girls ) lol!

My Brittany has never been destructive either. I know doing a number of dog sports with her over the years contributed to keeping her active and occupied, rather than destructive.
