Not just backyard breeders !!! I have just found out that a girl we sold into an experienced show home in NSW has had a litter - she is from our H Litter they were 12 mths old on 11/09/12 - she whelped her litter on 14/11/12. Even if this was a "mistake" (and I don't believe that for one second - these people have been in dogs forever) you just wouldn't let it go to term in a 12 mth old dobermann bitch. Understand your feeling Bisart Dobes. The only consulation you may have in the future if this ruleing is accepted Australia wide then future litters not conforming to breeding age I assume will not be eligible for registration, not that, that helps the bitch. bridgie_cat Posted January 17, 2013 Share Posted January 17, 2013 Yeah - that is bad Bisart overall it is the reason we register - so people know we are being held to a higher standard - which is great as long as the rules put in follow a sound basis (ie accepted best practice for the health of the dogs - or have a good reason for being in place like time taken for any mandatory health test in that breed etc) - I do not entirely agree with the allocation of breeds in this case but in essence it is a nice idea to have different limits for different dogs and limits in the first place... So from what I have heard here and read this is for victoria only (although other states may have their own rules) and is taken from time of mating. Fortunately it is for bitches in Victoria only, and is dependent on the breed club / breeders. ie: The ASD and CAS min breeding age will be changed in 2013. BB There is nothing to state the maximum age, however it does state: "A member shall not breed a bitch causing it to welp more than six times without prior veterinary certification of fitness for further breeding, and without prior approval of the VCA Inc."
