Dogsrawesome
My dog cant walk on his back leg for some reason he is 16yrs old if thats any help, is it possible for them to get cramps, if its still bad in the morning we are taking him to the vet. would just like to ask if anyone has heard of it. He couldnt walk and was freaking him out i had to lift him up and wait for him to calm down then he limped over and layed down. Any ideas? He is a silky x
Sheridan
He may have just pulled or pinched something but it's good you're going to get it checked out. They do tend to go into a panic if they can't move properly. Does he have arthritis?
persephone
..Just keep him quiet, and relaxed..is he still eating etc? There are lots of reasons! Knee problems, hip problems, foot problems, muscle problems....Definitely vet in the morning , poor old fella.
Dogsrawesome
Yeah he has arthritis in his hips, He ate this afternoon but it happened like half hour ago and he is sleeping at the moment. Im thinking its his hip cause his leg was like bent in at the time . I just hate it cause i always think of the worst possible thing, i just hope he is walking tomorrow. FHRP
Are you in a tick area? Check him thoroughly if you are, weakness in the back legs is one of the symtpoms of paralysis ticks. If you suspect it may be a tick he will need to go to the vet ASAP. Edited January 27, 2011 by FHRP
Dogsrawesome
I have checked him over he also has tick prevention on him. poodlefan
If he's carrying the leg and won't take weight on it, it might be a cruciate ligament injury. A vet visit sounds like a good idea.

Sheridan
Even if he's not carrying the leg in the morning, get him checked over anyway, I reckon.

Chocolate
All though likely arthritis in hips or spine in an old dog of this age even such a thing as anal glands being impacted can prevent a dog from get up and walking so go to the vet and get him checked out. Best of luck, I hope it is minor like anal glands need emptying.

Danielle
You are in north Brisbane, you are in paralysis tick country. I'd be checking him over for a tick, do you have any tick wash? Give him a bath too. Let us know what the vet says. Good luck!
Dogsrawesome
Turns out it was his arthritis playing up, Just before we left he was walking fully on his left leg but our vet said if it happens again he will have to come back in.
