Puppy Pulling On Collar

I use the easy walk harness - benefit being I'm not having my arm pulled off. however it is a training aid, dog still needs to learn to walk nicely on a collar (that's the bit we're still working on!!). The harness maymake it easier at training, but if you can persevere with training the flat collar at other times that might be helpful and quicker to transition to using the flat collar all the time.

I don't like harnesses at all. I think they make the dog pull more. I use a flat collar usually but I have discovered the Infin 8 dog halter. I love them. No more pulling !!! & they are very gentle. I use them on the way down to my leash-free dog beach that i walk with my furry kids every day & I walk them home on a flat collar. I used this when my almost 3 year old boy was learning to lead train & you gradually loosen / remove the nose band. Best purchase I have ever made. :D I have had lots of surgery on my hands, forearms & elbows so have very little strength in both arms & limited movement so my 2 have to be extremely well behaved on lead. They are getting there. :)

The Easy Walk Harness works wonders on my Belgian. She walks better on a harness and doesn't pull on it and find it easier because I walk to large dogs at once. She just plods along looking for cats, I don't really walk her, she just tags along for the ride.

But with the EWH on my Pointer, that's a big no no. He thinks the harness means he can pull.

All depends on the dog.

I've also had some success with the stop and go method, but you have to be really patient and dedicate a chunk of time soley to teaching the dog to walk on lead. It's immensely frustrating when you actually want to GO somewhere, lol.

Good luck, and don't buy a harness. It's soooo much easier having a dog that can walk nicely on a loose leash. When I got T, he was such a strong puller he nearly pulled my arm out every time we walked. Now with a lot of patience and using lots of methods that didn't work (choke chain, harness, retractable lead etc) he can walk well on a lead with a flat collar. Well, for me anyway. His 'Dad' is an entirely different story, because he doesn't have the patience to walk and stop when he pulls.
