Vasectomies

When I had my 2 litters earlier in the year all pet males had vasectomies before leaving. My vet charged me $170( discount price). I have now shifted to Hervey Bay and have found a home in WA for one of the boys I ran on, now 8 months old. Of the 5 vets I have called in the area only one will do it, for approx $1000! WTF! While trying to justify the price after I questioned them, they tried to tell me they use clamps from the hospital and they do it so the tubes don't join back up, (which I told her so did my vet). My vet explained it is not that much different than a castration, the prep is the same, it's a little bit more fiddly as he has to pull the tubes out of the small hole, cut, cauterise and put back with one stitch. How on earth can there be such a price difference? So what do I do now? Didn't want to castrate yet, he is going to be a huge boy and wanted to give him more time to mature. I'm just gobsmacked.

Vet sounds like a scammer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or worse doesnt know what he's doing.

Our vet here is charging $200 (ormaybe a bit less)

Where is Hervey Bay? I know a vet in Melbourne who will do it for a reasonable price but they are near beaconsfield

Hervey Bay is in QLD Lollapalooza. I refuse to pay $1000 that is ridiculous especially when I know it can be done for less. I'm not sure what to do now. Maybe I should try and ring a few places further along the coast. I didn't want to have to go too far though. If anyone knows a vet that would do it for a decent price in qld please let me know.

Cheers KM.

Hate to say it but you are being ripped off, or the Vet is not confident in doing the job. Best look elsewhere to someone more reasonable and hopefully done plenty before.....better safe then sorry. Good luck.

Òne of my owners was charged nearly $700 to desex(with no complications-very straightforward) a 7 mth old bloodhound bitch.Reason was given pre-anaesthetic check and "dissolvable sutures"?????All the other owners were charged max of $250 for same age,sex and "sutures  "She was in qld too.I would shop around and even if you have to travel a little way-you will still be better off.
