Mason_Gibbs
....or you could train a toilet on command!!!! I always put a word on eliminating very early on in toilet training and it translates to a cue at the trial grounds. "Go do wees" and "Busy Dog" for number two's or you could do what the retrieving people do.... ;) ;) :cheer: I do for wees. Poos I simply cannot make a dog go if they don't need to go What do the retrieving people do? I tell mason 'quick quick' if he needs #1 or #2 he will go

RubyStar
I tell mason 'quick quick' if he needs #1 or #2 he will go That's the thing I struggle with, if they need to go. Can you get Mason to do #2 on command regardless? How can you be sure that when you give your command and he doesn't go, that he won't need to go when in the ring? This question goes out to everyone by the way. I'm honestly baffled as to how to force a dog to do #2 if it decides it doesn't need to go right now. And it's not as if I have never tried. I have since a pup named Ruby's toileting, and reward her for going when I ask. I simply just cannot master this part of the training.
Tassie
Well - it's a brag for Rally O, and a semi brag for obedience, so I'll put it here. We had our first go at Novice obedience today - decided to do the individual work even though I couldn't put Rory in stays as he's not proofed enough to be with strange dogs yet. Morning went well - apart from him getting lost on fast pace and ending up on my right in the fast pace RAT . Full marks for SFE - yay, lost 1 for crooked sit in recall, and 2 - I think for mouthing in DB retrieve - so would have been on 187 if we could do stays. Afternoon - completely lost the plot in heeling - rubbernecking everywhere - but did all the positions, and didn't get lost in fast pace RAT . Then picked up his game for full marks SFE again, but lost 5 in recall - rubbernecking before I called him, then came in a bit slowly - but straight. Decided to do COP to see how it went - fine - full marks. (By the way, does anyone else think that there's an imbalance between the level of difficulty/chances for things to go wrong in the two options in Novice?) We finished the day with a Rallo O Mock Trial - and my little man did a lovely round - 1st place with 96/100 - I lost most of the points by rushing a bit leading to crooked sits, and making a handler error at one point. If you get the chance to do Rally O, do give it a go - so much fun for the dogs, and you can challenge yourself to work with great precision, while being able to talk to the dogs as you go through. Sue & Waldo
Well done tassie. I agree with the difference between COP and dumbbell but I am glad that the choice is there as I am a long way off with the dumbbell.

I agree too BUT I think it is great to be able to do the retrieve if your dog finds that rewarding. Getting to reward them in the ring would be awesome! ;) Ah, if only ;) And please someone bring Rally O to Canberra!!!
Sayreovi
We have our dumb bell retrieve!!! Been the only thing that we were having trouble with, she just wouldn't come in close enough when holding it! Though she would sit and hold it till I took it and on recalls came in nice and close. So I didn't train with it for awhile as I could see she was getting frustrated and I guess I must have as well because I couldn't figure out how to do it. So tonight I back chained it a little and I saw the little light bulb go off! So I set her up, threw it and she returned it beautifully, nice and close :D Got a massive jackpot for that, and she went nuts so I figured will see if it was a fluke or if she really understands and she did it again! Called it quits as I didn't want to push my luck even if she was still roaring to go Will let her sleep on it and we will see how we go again tomorrow ;) Who would have thought that teaching a retriever the finer points of a retrieve would be the hardest thing I've taught her so far!? Though now we've lost our COP from any thing further than a meter away Suppose it doesn't matter much as long as I have one or the other on a trial day :p

SmoothieGirl
I agree too, there doesn't seem to be an imbalance, but again I like the option. We are the other way around though, our dumbell retrieve is pretty good, but Miss Clingy always runs the risk of creeping too far before nailing the COP. I've got to test both of these this weekend before I decide if I enter our first CD attempt in early June. Mind you it'll be the SFE free that will be the real test. Good luck to you for this weekend's trial and please pass on my thoughts to the lovely Lynn & her gorgeous Chloe Thanks for that biker girl. And yes, it was a pity - especially people who live closer than me LOL. Will definitely pass on your best wishes to Lynne and Chloe. Lynne was so pleased that people were commenting on the improvments in her work and Chloe's. Chloe did beautiful sit stays at training on Thursday evening - including a 3 minute one when the other dogs were in a down - she absolutely nailed it - fingers crossed she can do it again tomorrow. The Spotted Devil
Just popping in to brag about my mad Spotted Dog getting his JDX today. Tough conditions for a dog that hates the cold (it was freezing!) and rain (every time we stepped in the ring!) - we didn't have the best start (both of us were mentally still near the heater at home I suspect ) but finally gained a really lovely pass and 2nd place. Ziggy also did a fantastic Open run in the afternoon but just tipped a bar coming home - he was really focussed and fire-y which was fun! I don't feel quite ready for Masters Jumping yet so will start running ADX and ADO and continue having fun in JDO. I think his breeders will be wrapped when they get my email as Ziggy has had quite a busy year thus far! Yarrowfell High Society CD AD JDX (pending!) The Spotted Devil
Thank you! It was horrid weather SG - I didn't even bother setting up my gazebo. We had nearly 50mm of rain at our place the night before! Unsurprisingly, Ziggy is still in bed
Ptolomy
TSD - I think Ziggy deserves to stay in bed as long as he likes today as reward for his efforts yesterday - Well done to both of you - you sure have had a great year and it isn't even half over
