RubyStar
Feel these should both really be 2010 brags but we had our clubs end of 2010 annual award presentation tonight - postponed because of weather at the end of last year. Both my girls walked away with 2 brags each. Kenz finished up with a prize for top Novice Agility Dog and top Novice Jumping Dog. Ness finished up with a second place in ADO and won the Open A/Open B obedience trophy for the second consecutive year. Both girls had a piece of pizza each to celebrate when I got home . I missed this earlier, well done!!
RubyStar
I'm a happy girl tonight. First obedience trial back for the year for me and I put both dogs into Open but in NFC (not for competition). I did this so I could have a bit of a reduced stress trial with Ruby, as we are working at getting her heelwork concentration back (we lost it somewhere along the way, and at the same time I started getting extremely nervous with her which doesn't help). She did good. She struggles coming down the ring back towards the figure 8 posts, just too much excitement with stewards standing there! So I know what to work on. I only did the heelwork with Ruby then exited the ring for her jackpot :p Oh but one thing I gotta say I am very happy with, her fast pace had improved tonight! We've been doing a bit of work on that lately so I hope it's on it's way to being fixed Then I went in with Millie and did a full round with her. She was a good Moo!! The only thing she failed was drop on recall. She can do it, so we'll just work on perfecting it. She came in at full pelt so I think found it a bit hard to collect her body and thoughts on that one I'm so very proud of her round! Her official Open debut is in 2 weeks time at the Western Classic. Here is Millie's video from tonight :D Edited February 19, 2011 by RubyStar

bedazzledx2
I have a brag for tonight. Brookie won Open and UD ...but what I am most proud of was his work in UDX. We very nearly passed in our first trial with just the last leather in multiple retrieve costing us the quallie. He worked really well and whilst he is not really ready he showed an understanding of the exercises. I am stoked gooood boy!!!

ness
Well done RubyStar - Millie's round looked really good and glad to hear Ruby managed some lovely heelwork too. Well done also to Brookie and Bedazzledx2 - sounds like his UDX is really coming along and I am sure it won't be to long before he is out passing (and winning) that class as well. J...
No comps here for us until next weekend but given the focus on foundation skills in agility in the training thread lately I thought I'd give my thoughts on it in here. I did next to no foundation with Darcy, my first dog. She learnt on equipment. She has done awfully well despite that, got her first JDM title nearly 2 years ago at just past 3 y.o. From there everything fell apart, no matter what I did or what I tried we struggled. We lost speed, confidence and none of my instructors were able to give me an answer as to what was going on. 18 months ago I went to a seminar that gave me the answer - I'd spent so much time trying to band-aid the holes in her foundation work, but finally it had fallen apart It was time to start again, so we did... Fast forward to now and we have more speed than ever , we have confidence, fun and some great results. And that foundation lesson has given Zee a much better start to her agility career than Darcy ever had. So Zee got carted off to her third ever "big dog" class on Sunday - we've done a heap around here with what gear I have, heaps around trials but it's reached a point where I need to get her out and about. And her foundation work has paid off brilliantly Nailed her first ever rear cross on jumps perfectly. Yesterday she did some really quite difficult rear crosses and got every single one. She also got a go on serps for the first time - held position for her just in case she needed it. Turns out she didn't caught me totally on the hop and right out of position for the next obstacle. I'm still grinning like an idiot.
pie
Make that x 4 Well said Ampypie - good on you for making sure you include everyone in this thread :D I enjoy hearing all the brags no matter how small - if someone is posting it then it obviously means something to them :D Good on you with Zee, Jess Kyzer was the same - learnt on equipment (I was only learning too) but with Trix I am trying to keep it more foundation based and she seems to string things together better and faster than Kyzer did. Like you, I got away with it with Kirra, but realised how muych better things could have been (and are now) with systematic work - even a little bit. I've been trying to be systematic with Rory - he's only just seeing some of the equipment now at over 2 (I went slowly on that because he's a big boy.) We learnt independent jumipng (thanks to SS) and independent weaves (thanks SG), and I've tried to be disciplined with 2o2o contacts. Still be a while before we get into the ring - obedience is first up - but I'm really happy with how he works - and it rubs off onto obedience as well. I teach puppy class at my dog club, and do quite a bit of foundation stuff in that - on lead, cos it's unfenced - we do hand targetting, and then agility recalls to the hand both sides, as well as ob. recalls to front - and we turn the moving hand targetting into front cross work. The puppies and the people just eat it up.
The Spotted Devil
We had a fantastic time last night at K9 Agility's Twilight trial. Very relaxed atmosphere and the rain stayed away for most of the night. Zig ran really well in Open Jumping but we couldn't handle the distance challenge (handler had to decel hard out of the tunnel and Zig read me perfectly and pulled off the jump ). However he absolutely flew around the Excellent Jumping course and, with 5 s to spare, he gained his first pass and 1st place We were next to last to run the course and the fact that we got a big cheer from the stewards only made sense when I found he was the only dog to run clear I wish I had videoed it as the course felt lovely and smooth to run. ETA: 1.30am by the time I made it to bed. Funny how a nice run can make a 6am start seem not so bad Edited February 26, 2011 by The Spotted Devil
