julzjc Posted January 22, 2011 Share Posted January 22, 2011 We own a cabin, down at Durras (near Batemans bay, NSW) where we "can" take the dogs. Problem is that the only place the dogs are allowed to walk is on the rd, inside the caravan park. Not allowed anywhere near the bay/beach/forest tracks or even the grass verges outside the caravan park, which would mean that they would have to be left inside the cabin for a vast amount of time, hence we put them in kennels instead of taking them with us. Atleast the get plenty of free running at their kennels and spoilt by staff. Does anyone have any suggestions on where we can all holiday? Absolutly ANYWHERE in NSW, or surrounding states for future reference, tend to go "walk about", just jump in the car and see where we end up, ie lost in a good way . ~Needs to have enough room for 2Adults, 4Kids, and atleast 2 med/large dogs. ~The quieter, the better. Bonnie has mild barrier aggression with a select few dogs, just involves barking, but no one wants to hear a dog barking on holiday. So the less dogs, the better. We dont care how remote it is, we are there to enjoy being away from the city, not to socialise lol. ~ Would pref a dog friendly beach (even with time restrictions) near by where the kids can swim, again as empty as possible. Or walking trails where the dogs can run offleash safetly. Any suggestions guys? OH desperatly wants to take the dogs on holidays with us but it just not fair to take them to Durras only to have them locked up all the time and not allowed to play/exercise. To the OP, I love the Batemans Bay area - while the Durras area is basically national park, there are surrounding places which allow dogs. Have you tried places such as Huskisson? The beach there used to be dog friendly, but I haven't been for a number of years. So we mostly camp I love going to Bonnie Hills Caravan Park (20mins out of Port Macquarie)...we get a powered site, right near the path to the beach, that overlooks the beach, where I take the dogs! State Forest in Barrington Tops - camp Cabins in the bush at Turon Gates, near Lithgow, that allow dogs inside & out....my fav for the bit of luxury of not having to set up the tent!!! skip Posted January 24, 2011 Share Posted January 24, 2011 I live in Wollongong now and it has a few beaches that are dog allowed but maybe not deserted enough. I holiday near Urunga (Coffs ) and some beaches there like the 4wd at 3rd headland go for miles and are deserted. Boambee ( half hr away)near Coffs is a dog beach and again goes for miles. The forest (state) in this area is also OK and we found some lovely areas off the beaten track. Bellingen (which is called God's Country) is hippie land and lovely but never go there in summer. When I lived in Orange we stopped once for the day in the State Forest area between Orange and Bathurst. Heaps of camp areas and we walked about 10 dogs - we had a ball. Also in Orange we rode horses all thru miles and miles of State Forest land. Not sure about dogs now as they opened the area for hunting. Good luck finding a place. We go with another family so the houses we have been to probably been too big for you, but the locations were very dog friendly. 1st time we took her to Catherine Hill Bay, just south of Swansea- 90 mins north of Sydney. Gorgeous place, long beach- dogs not allowed near the patrolled area but fine further up. Not too many dogs around at all. Then this year, as our usual CHB house was booked out, I searched further north and we stayed at the south end of Old Bar Beach at a place called Wallabi Point. It's east of Taree- 4 hour drive from Sydney. It's not patrolled & dogs are allowed leashed all day on the beach, offlead evening til early morning. There do seem a lot of residential dogs but I didn't see too many on the beach. It was glorious. We had a lovely time & will return. It's so nice to include Honey. Lauders Real estate at Old Bar have a huge amount of listings- I'm sure you could find something to suit. Many are pet friendly- ours even allowed dogs everywhere inside. eta:the Manning river council area, which the last place was in, is very dog friendly- all non nat park beaches allow dogs. BittyMooPeeb Posted January 24, 2011 Share Posted January 24, 2011 The Batemans Bay council has a pamphlet showing their dog friendly beaches. Perhaps ring and ask for it to be sent out. I have not found anywhere really suitable though, as when I last holidayed there, the only dog-friendly beaches were either pebbly, small and near the road or very rough surf beaches. There are beds for 8 or ten people. Talbingo is a small village near Tumut, and is at the bottom of the Snowy Mountains, on the Selwyn side. We used to camp in the area, but decided on a rental house this time, and it was great. There's a lot of pine forest around, and the lakes are right there. Christine runs the website and she has dogs of her own so understands the furkids factor ! I can't comment on the house we are staying as yet but will be able to do so in May but it sounds great from what i have seen on the site... It's just beautiful and there are good spots for the dogs. At Vincentia try Nelsons Beach and Orion Beach. If you stay at Huskisson there is a Dog Friendly Beach (with time restrictions) and everything is within walking distance from the beach. I think one of the caravan parks in front of the beach is dog friendly (its really nice) and there are also heaps of dog friendly holiday houses available if you google or look on stayz.com. All the cafes in Huskisson welcome dogs outside and have outside seating. I think Callalla Beach is dog friendly too on the other side of Jervis Bay. Jervis Bay is basically Durras on steroids, still very quiet but more going on and more dog-friendly places. shoalhaven heads also has a dog friendly beach and is really lovely and quiet. If you walk far enough up the really long beach (7 mile beach) there will be no one there so your dogs can play freely.
