Recommend A Private Dog Trainer In Canberra

Hello,

First post here.

I desperately need a private dog trainer. I am at the end of my tether when it comes to walking my two dogs. They are normally lovely, well behaved (a little excitable!) dogs but when the leads come out it's on - pulling, tug-o-war, jumping, pulling each others leads. I try my best to train them not to, but my husband just lets them run off lead (we back onto dog park) until they tire -- I need a trainer as much for him as the dogs as he can't see the issue with their behaviour! It came to a climax today when I lost the plot and spent our "walk" this morning crying at the back fence.

I need to fix this - I want to enjoy my dogs and enjoy walking them, it has become a chore and I dread it.

I don't know any of the private trainers here but until you get a chance to get one in, I recommend you walk each dog alone.

Although I haven't used her personally, I have heard lots of positive feedback about Heike Hahner in Braidwood.

Good luck, I had to walk my dogs separately until they learned that it wasn't a race. When learning to walk together, I used a front-attach harness on the young one (who was the most troublesome). That way at least she got walked, and I spent individual time with her teaching her to walk properly. They still feed off each other's excitement a bit on walks, but are so much better than they used to be (and are both now on flat collars)

You really need to let your husband know that the training in the household needs to be consistent and that you don't enjoy walking the dogs anymore due to their behaviour and that it is upsetting you this much (trust me - been there, done that too!). Have you considered a head halter for them, or a sporn harness, to help stop the pulling behaviour?
