What Products And Brands For An Online Pet Accessories Site

I'm looking at starting a online pet accessories website and was wondering what brands and what particular product would everyone prefer to see.

It would be mainly for Dogs and Cats Accessories.

I'm just looking at ideas currently.

There are so many websites selling pet things, you would have to have a point of difference in yours.

I buy flea and worm products on the net, purely on price. Also dog tags. Other things I often prefer to see so I can judge the quality.

I am buying some collars soon from a specialty collar maker. They only do the one type of collar, but have it in different colours, sizes and styles.

Is there are product that you know very well that you could specialise in? Because it would be very expensive to keep a wide range of accessories for dogs and for cats as well.

Competition is huge now. Very very hard to compete with the big companies.

The brands I have either found difficult to find or really expensive in "real" stores are... Ruffwear (particularly dog PFD's), Ezydog, Outward Hound. So I will always look at online stores for these brands. Other brands I would be happy to buy online are Kong, Aussie Dog, Starmark, Blackdog. I guess mainly because I see their products in stores so I know what they are before I purchase them. I won't buy collars, harnesses, halters etc over the web but will buy leashes.

Agree with others I like to see/try on the products before I purchase.

And, there is a lot of competition. I move from store to store based on price. So have good prices/specials would be important to me and having good postage charges (I find this is what often saves me money overall).

Stuff for real sized dogs - I walked into a pet accesories store and evrything was for the size of a SWF and that was about it. Nothing not even bowls for a normal medium sized dog let alone the big ones.

Leather feltlined collars with a single row of studs - this use to be (without the felt) a standard collar many years ago now you have to hunt for them amongst the lightweight pink and blue material ones or the multiple rows of studs for the 'butch' dogs which are everywhere out there.

Nina Ottosson toys and other boredom busting toys are great! They're something i'm willing to keep purchasing because the pooch doesn't really outgrow them.

I have to say I'm a fan of lupine collars & leads - the replacement guarantee makes them well worth the money. I'm surprised how few places sell them

Gear safe for use in salt water - leads, collars, harnesses, long leads, floating leads, grab leads etc with a salt water guarantee. Also looking for a salt water safe remote activated canine emergency locator. Useful for boat based dogs.

Haven't found anything in Australia yet but there are a few stores in USA carrying products we are currently looking at. We made our own marine grade long leads (to use when swimming a dog up and back along a jetty) but commercial ready made products have been impossible to find here (for me anyway).

Would be great if an Australian company could look at manufacturing marine grade dog products so we can support our local industry.

Leather leads and collars for bigger dogs, love ruthless ones, but with 3 big dogs they are way over my budget.

I buy my flea stuff online as its cheaper.

Mine wear rogz collars, and only found one place round here that stock them, and have just had to order a large pink one as they don't hold everything.
