Hiccups

I have a young dog that gets hiccups very regularly - often nowhere near feeding time so I don't put it down to eating his food too quickly (which he sometimes does).

I know it's an irritation of his diaphragm but I do wonder what triggers the hiccups.

But I have not seen any of my other dogs have hiccups ever.

Does anyone else have a dog that frequently gets hiccups?

Is it something a dog would grow out of as it gets older?

I had a rescue rotti x staffy pup she would get hiccups, i just thought it was from eating to much to fast ?

as the poor girl was starving and she got into the food i gave her like she had not eaten. hiccups came soon after.

I have two Danes. Both had hiccups a lot as pups.

The first one freaked me out a little. Checked with her breeder and it's a common thing.

Sure enough, the second one had hiccups lots too.

They both grew out of them.

That's good to know because this young fella is only 5 months old and he gets them a few times a week which I thought was kinda frequent!

Hiccups are pretty common in puppies - quite normal! Enjoy them while they last :)

Yeah - I love the puppy hiccups. They become less and less as the dog grows older. Mandela gets them only very occasionally now. He's 2.5yo.
