Donations For Flood Victims

There are plenty of DogsQueensland members who own crossbred dogs too. Do we know where they stand?

MrsD, I would imagine donations to DQ would go to DQ members regardless of breeds owned????

I would imagine any assistance to DQ members would be irrespective of which dogs or breeds they owned, or whether they are purebred or not

And I would consider that the members who own associate dogs would get the same assistance as others

Honestly ... One of my dogs is a crossbreed and I'm not fussed in the slightest that there are organisations that would prefer to help their members only or purebred dogs only... There are some who would criticise if one donates only for dogs and not other animals some would say that we should be donating towards humans over dogs.

You can't help everybody and this is about trying to break down what seems like a Huge Overwhelming Horrible into smaller, more manageable pieces. Personally I think it's great that we can have a choice about where to donate, that we can donate where our interests lie. There's a reason why there are special interests groups - breed rescues and clubs etc. My question was just because my personal preference is to donate to dogs generally regardless of parentage. You could argue that members who are helped out by the purebred associations/associations of which they are a member will therefore free up a spot in the "general dog assistance" pool for another dog. It's win win really because there are different groups to cover different areas and conceptually there shouldn't be gaps. Many of us have to work hard for our money - we can't donate to everyone so we have to make choices about where the money goes.

The more reputable assistance groups out there the better I say. Right now it shouldn't be an issue of arguing about ideology, it should be all about helping out as many starfishdogs as we can.

A show run in WA raised over $20 000 to be used by all dogs Vic members in need that also doesn't count the containers of crates.dog needs/fencing that was sent over

This money was raised by Pure & (associate) crossbreed members Elitist no,caring & concerned for people in there org yes .

This is a time when members within there community/hobbies band together & help .

How on earth can it be a slight on any other organisation that Dogs Qld is setting up a fund to help members badly affected by these floods? Many organisations will be passing the hat around for its members or employees or whatever.

It's not surprising that a notice about this Dogs Qld fund-raising would appear in a DOL forum. After all, it's connected with the Dogzonline Purebred Community website.

As I've said, we're dividing our donations across a few organisations. Not because they're in competition with each other. But because they're involved with different sets of tasks for dogs and/or other animals. And we'd like to support those tasks by donating. They also fit a criterion,in this case, of being Qld-based & on the spot.

Dogs Qld fund will be one... out of my respect for the decent things that I've already seen/experienced Qld registered breeders do, for dogs.

DogsQld has set up a bank account where people can donate to help dogs and their owners .... this would be purebred dogs only, but this is a purebred dog forum.

<snipped> CCCQ will be holding a virtual dog show, as Dogs Vic did after the bushfires, so maybe check out the website. Give 'em a few days though.

Noted - thank you Jed. I have family in the area, but will consider this and other options such as MDBA. Like others I am feeling quite overwhelmed at the pictures coming from all over Australia at the moment. It's likely donations will be needed for quite a long time.

No wonder I have respect for the registered breeders I've come across. First reply, from an american registered breeder, on hearing there was a flood relief fund for queensland registered breeders. ' Is there a way foreigners can contribute to this fund?' The international list for breeders of my breed of interest, had headed their enquiry 'Australian friends.' Sometimes a hat being handed around, travels some distance. But close in spirit.

That's what I would have thought too Jed, I actually have alot more respect for DQ now it's in the hands of Barry Vickers & I hope that they raise enough money to help out any of their members that need help & assistance  .
