Donations For Flood Victims

DogsQld has set up a bank account where people can donate to help dogs and their owners .... this would be purebred dogs only, but this is a purebred dog forum. Some of our members have had their houses washed away, some are in danger of having their entire properties inundated. Some we haven't heard from. One family is in the house, they have been told to evacuate by the SES - but they can't because of floodwaters. If the floods get to the house, they are going up onto the roof with the dogs (Borders).

CCCQ will be holding a virtual dog show, as Dogs Vic did after the bushfires, so maybe check out the website. Give 'em a few days though.

Premiers appeal, details plastered everywhere, will distribute money, but not solely to dog owners.

God I wish I could do more......just having brain surgery and being on Chemo (and not being allowed to drive atm), I cant do anything physical...I want to be out there helping my friends etc fill sandbags etc and being on a stupid pension because I cant work makes donating hard too...takes me weeks just to save $50!

All I can offer is a place to stay or some dog minding.

Im on the east side of Brissy, on a hill and although many roads around me are closed, theres still plenty of access....so please let me know if you need any help and if I can, I will.

Am going to scrounge around and see what small money I can find to donate. I guess anything is better than nothing. Might even dip into the rent to donate some and try to make it up later on down the track.

Might be able to raid the pantry too and donate some tinned food or even dog food and bones etc as the freezer is full of those.

I also have plenty of camping equipment too so if anyone needs some extra shelter (Gazebos, tents) or even camping stoves and gas canisters etc, please let me know.

Does anyone know if and how we would go about donating food for both humans and pets? Donating blankets and clothes where they can go directly to victims?

Can anyone think of other ways we might be able to help those in need.

Any other time and I would be out there and doing everything that I can. I feel so helpless towards the efforts of flood victims.

Hope all my fellow QLDs are safe out there...actually I hope everyone is safe out there ...theres reports of flooding in NSW and VIC to now im told..fires in WA.

E.

will this help other dogs or just dogsqld members?

Only DogsQld members and their dogs - I presume.

Premiers appeal will help everyone. Red Cross also has an appeal.

Ishy, you are a good person. I wonder if goods or food could be taken to the evacuation centre at the RNA, and given out?

I'm glad to see one of our State Dogs Orgs stepping in to help but I really would like to think that it could extend itself to helping anyone who has a dog and not to discriminate on whether the dog is purebred or not. They're canines. They all need help and I think a generosity of spirit is needed across the board regardless of breeding background.

But yes, it is a good thing that they are doing something. However, I'd rather give my funds to someone like MDBA for example - the only discrimination there is based on who needs what the most, when and how. Not by what sort of dog the people own.

This is only a reflection of my thoughts. I'm not saying others shouldn't donate through DogsQld. It's personal preference.

Have been watching the TV news and the flood footage. It brings tears to the eyes and I wish for everyone in QLD and for that matter anywhere that is affected by flooding to keep safe and sound.

Nothing wrong with peole supporting their own. DogsQLD is collecting money from their members (and extended ANKC member bodies) FOR their members.

There is the premier's appeal here: http://www.thepremier.qld.gov.au/initiativ...very/index.aspx

It doesn't discriminate between pure or non-pure owners, or dog owners and non-dog owners.

I agree with Erny and Jaxx - I dont think it should be discriminated who the money/relief is given to - I think it is really best to go to ALL animal owners needing assistance with their pets, not just those with purebred dogs. I think the same thing happened with Dogs VIC after the bushfires as well? For my own personal preference, I'll donate to PACERS, although others may feel differently.

I don't find Dogs Qld are being discriminatory or elitist at all.

They are collecting donations to help their members.

These are the people who have paid their membership, attended events and kept Dogs Qld running. Good on them for helping their members.

If I had family in the area, my money would go straight to them. Would you consider this elitist? :(

My chosen breed is Great Danes. If I were to help a Dane owner before another dog owner, would this be elitist? :D

Eh, everyone has the right to donate to whomever they wish, I know where I choose to donate.

I'm OK with them collecting for their own members - it's a bit like the people who say they prefer to give directly to an affected friend in need in the area instead of a broader appeal.

The purebred dog world is a networked community in it's own right and people who belong to other canine associations across Australia may feel particularly connected to that community, esp if they are active in showing or other cc run activities.

It's not 'elitist'. It's family.

Doesn't mean I won't also donate to pacers or the salvos.

I'm fine with them collecting for whomever they like as well - it makes perfect sense to me, but by the same token, I'd also like to be able to tailor my donation so that it goes where I want it to go i.e. to dogs generally. People in my office (who are not dog lovers) would of course think that that makes me bonkers.

I'll be donating to the Dogs Qld fund. I'm not a breeder myself, but I've gained from the work of registered breeders I respect. In the person of gorgeous p/b pets. Three of whom were dogs from sad circumstances, where decent breeders had stepped in, to care for.

I've also had concerns for registered breeders in these floods, because they have more dogs to try to save than a pet owner like me. Logistics would be enormous.

So Dogs Qld will get a generous donation from us.

We've already given a generous donation to RSPCA Qld at the time of setting up shelter facilities in Rockhampton.

And will probably do the same for Best Friends Rescue (SE Qld) who took great initiative in going to visit the evacuation centre, with items pet owners might need. And are prepared to keep tabs on these needs & to get word around about offers of help.

Ishy, there's a Facebook page, Qld Floods Pet Options, where people are posting all sorts of offers to help pets & their owners. There was even someone, who's part of a group, offering to look after fish.

So maybe you could post what you're offering or keep an eye on requests, there.

There's another page specifically for horses.

There are plenty of DogsQueensland members who own crossbred dogs too. Do we know where they stand?

MrsD, I would imagine donations to DQ would go to DQ members regardless of breeds owned????

I would hope so too, so not just for "purebred dogs" .

Although of course I understand that the vast majority of DogsQueensland members that probably need the most assistance may be breeders etc, so probably in the end it would be mostly purebred dog owners.
