Zenchel, I was worried about that too which is why I was asking about the labs prognosis as I missed a bit. However something was going n with the 'rest' of the lab as he appeared to have other incissions etc. and I'm guessing there was a lot more to this story that did not make it to the doco. I dont htink he needs to make money (his equipment is worth the debt of a small country :confused: ) and he obviously has a LOT of work and will forever amen.

Pioneering surgery treatment is fantastic for animals, we are going where no one has been before. I am very happy about it as long as it is for the improvement of the animal. I want to know what is possible, you never know.... and it encourages others to go outside the square. IF no one took the chance to do this we would never progress. I was so glad they showed the cat, I am a massive cat lover and often people can relate to a 'dog' thing but dimiss cats :o

Seeing a person spend on their cat and the vet so excited over the outcome was wonderful :(

I have a fantastic specialist on the sunny coast, Richard Mitchell, who is very similar to this guy re attitude. and my own vets here are also incredible, I'm very spoilt.

Flick, wouldn't that be a fantastic experience for an intern!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved his attitude Monah - and the fact that he said when the line is there to be drawn he'll tell them. I think that's a really important thing for a vet to do, and is part of our duty of care.

They mentioned the lab's other joints (hips and elbows) were also degenerating so they might have done 2 ops at once (although seems unlikely!)

This was great again last night, on late because of the flood footage.

he replaced a 'tumour eaten joint' in a lab's leg and it worked fantastically.

the dog has cancer, so will eventually die from it, but now has a great couple of years left, he's only 1 year old.. ;)

also fixed a broken 'arm' on a chinchilla, so tiny it was repaired with a needle from a syringe!

and then a very rare knee replacement, although is seems that next week the dog has more and serious issues..

He thinks human and animal medicine should be on par with sharing info and research. Great idea.

for example, many ops for humans are tried on animals first, many times, but are then not available for animals, (case in point, knee replacement), and later are 'researched and tried on animals' all over again to be avail. for them, when really it has all been done in human studies, so it's doubling up on costs and time etc.

another very interesting and informative program, and he is still wonderful.

He had stayed in the surgery for a few nights, with his gorgeous border terrier :):) (in his bed of course! )

I am loving this show. I love that Noel is so clear in his own decisions when it comes to ethics and is able to explain his way of thinking about what he does. He obviously has a great love of animals which shows through his handling and the respect he shows his patients with each interaction.

Check out the video of Oscar's new blade style prosthetics...

  • 2 weeks later...

Last nights episode was a bit heart wrenching with that little lab pup who ended up having an amputation.

If we had this type of vet surgery here in Australia I'd be tempted to give up human nursing and become a vet nurse.

Yes, I was really worried about that pup. I thought of turning off....got upset. I dont know if he or the owner was more upset about the leg? Just shows what terrible damage a horse can do. I see dogs around horses feet so often.. :)

He is a marvel.

Love the light hearted moments of him finding a clean office...........and then all the crap was thrown in his room :(

Gorgeous gorgeous english springer, almost tempted me...for later :)

Next week looks interesting.. bit of a meltdown.

Yeah Ice hit close to home for me.. swap a 6 month old lab to a 9 week old kelpie cross ad you have my dog Toby :) Thankfully Toby's break didn't go through thr skin so no infection so he kept his leg, although it's now wonky.

The English Springer was so cute and had me tempted too!

I enjoyed the show a lot and will be watching next week definately

this was great again tonight.

Incredible cat hospital area. state of the art, really fantastic.

Lovely main coone donated blood to a dear cat who had been in a car accident.

There was a little shih tzu cross ESS who was in a real mess with deformed front legs that he fixed by breaking and attaching a specialised frame..

He worked all night and all day..no idea if he has a family a he seems to just about live at the surgery.

There is even an elevator in the surgery.

still so amazing.

What about that woman with the black lab that had a hip replacement? Did you see how she riled it up when it first went to the car? The vet was standing there freaking out about the prosthesis coming out. Stupid woman. I don't know why they didn't sedate the dog for the journey home.
