Feeding A Large Breed Pup

Just curious after reading something on another forum.

The poster has a 6 m/o doberman pup that they feed with a premium quality large breed puppy food. In the US so I don't think it's available here. They said they give 3 meals per day with 2 cups per meal. I thought this was rather excessive. But not having a large breed I don't know.

I don't know Dobermans, but I don't even feed my adult male Lab near that much, and he is about 41kg. My girls get half as much as my boy.

I don't do 3 meals a day for pups that age either.

amounts differ depending on which kibble fed but i remember when i fed my borzoi on premium kibble that i fed about 4-5 cups per day at about that age i think. so it doesn't sound exactly unreasonable to me.

Fast growing large breed, depends on the food and the activity and metabolism of the dog, if that is all the dog gets then 6 cups could well be just fine, who knows when we have no knowledge of the dog and the food.

I have had rescues here that would have easily eaten 6 cups plus RMB daily. Deep chested breed, feeding 3 smaller meals is a good idea too. I have had pups on 3 meals and other pups prefer only 2, in the end there is no right or wrong.
