Jsk
Is it ok to give human phenergan to a dog? If so what is the dosage to weight ratio? My bitch has come up with an insect reaction and someone with big dogs said she needs an antihistamine and told me to give her phergan, this person isnt hugely experienced with dogs so I thought I would ask here. My bitch weighs about 8 to 9 kgs. Edited December 30, 2010 by Josuki

Dog_Horse_Girl
Golden Retriever? Why not phone your vet for advice? Better to hear it from an expert than overdose your dog or give it something that's dangerous.
Dee_al
yeah golden retriever. when he was a puppy he ran through a cloud of bugs and they bit him all over the face. Was the vet that told me to give him half the low dose tablet.

Some foods/drugs for humans can be fatal for dogs and cats!
Malamum
9k is a pretty small dog so not much margin for error. I'd phone your vet and ask them.

Get Whippet
From previous information given by my vet: Doses are for a 10kg dog (please adjust accordingly) Phenergan 10mg tablets - 1 tablet twice daily Periactin 4mg tablets - 1-2 tablets given twice or three times daily Polaramine 2mg tablets - 2 tablets twice daily Zadine 1mg tablets - 1 tablet twice daily Claratyne 10mg tablets - 1/2 tablet once daily Telfast 60mg tablets - 1 tablet once daily Zyrtec 10mg tablets - 1 tablet once daily Hope this helps and your girl is feeling better soon xx
Danois
Phenergen can be given to dogs (as can most anti-histamines intended for humans). Ingleburn Vet has a good chart on their website for dose rates but of course - first course is always to ring your own vet. If it is a bad reaction then a cortisone treatment might be more effective. shells
Personally I would go the Polaramine over the Phenergan. Phenergan leaves you feeling very drowsy, Polarmine is much more gentle IMO

Shazzapug
I have Pugs and do Polaramine or Claryentine before I would even consider Phenergen....I gave Phenergen to my 3 yr old child once and said child had a Convulsion 30,ooo ft up in the air in a plane so I lost faith in it after that. Pretty Miss Emma
My Mum was given advice by her vet to give her 9kg dogs 1 2mg Polaramine tablet twice per day and it seems to work a treat and has no side effects on them.
