Cometbreeze
My breeder advised me while she ( Maggie ) is nursing not take her out the front of the house at all as the risk of parvo is high, and it can live for 4-5 years in an area and we have only lived here for 18 months. So we havent but we havent the hugest yard as it has no grass out the back i believe she misses the short walk to the park for fresh air or even a wee on the front lawn and a roll . The pups are 2 weeks tomorrow and everybody is due to be wormed aswell all averaging 1Kg She just looks a little bored with it all as i had a little play with a ball with her this morning and she did a litlle run and wagged her tail, looked like she has missed all that , so is it too risky to take her out at the moment for a breather? Sandra777
I wouldn't be taking her to the park or anywhere she can't return to her pups immediately if she feels the need. They act like they've forgotten all about the pups then suddenly remember and can get very worked up if they can't immediately get back to them. I assume the front of your house is unfenced so random dogs could have wandered through? If so then no I wouldn't be taking her there - but you have to remember you could bring parvo into the house yourself by walking on that same lawn so somewhere along the line you need to be sensible and realise that there are risks and there are RISKS A play in the back yard, a tummy rub on the lounge floor and a play with you with a toy would be enough. Make sure she has a comfortable place to rest away from the pups (next to the whelping box for example) if she wants to. About this age I put a dog bed on the floor by the whelping box and mum can usually be found there!
dancinbcs
I agree with your breeder. Far too risky to take her out the front and all people coming into the house should be removing their shoes to reduce the risk of walking it in as well. If your back yard is not suitable for her to run around in, where are you going to be letting the puppies run in a week or two? When they need access to grass, depends on the breed, but my babies need running space on grass from about 3 weeks. Smaller breeds sometimes are not ready to venture into the great outdoors until 4-5 weeks.
Cometbreeze
Yep thanx guys for confirming my thoughts, haha was a good try though But NO of course i wouldnt risk it. Has been having a little trott around the yard but like i said we have no grass only Decking and pavers and pebbled areas but that should be fine. She is spending a lot of time inbetween feeding lying on the cool tiles in the room next to the whelping box and can hear them quiet easily, and spending most of the night in with them. So yep thanx and will just stick to home entertainment forsure
