Pork Pies Or Lies The General Public Tell Us

i have had people tell me that

1. maremmas are bred from golden retrievers !!! and argue with me whne i quietly deny that. sigh

2. that my wiltshire horn sheep are goats because goats have horns and sheep dont......... double sigh

3. this is a goodie : if you feed your dog raw meat they become "blooded" and untrustworthy and will attack .. triple sigh

4. almost forgot this; being told that maremma do not need to be fed as they eat grass with their flock.. and it was true because that is what his next door neighbour said .....in the next breath i was asked if i had pups available..

H

ed to add no 4

Heard that one about Maremmas a lot, along with:

- you can't feed them meat or they'll attack their flock - or the other version, you can't feed them the species they guard ie no mutton for dogs that guard sheep, no chevon for dogs that guard goats cos they'll figure where their meat is coming from & help themselves :)

- you need to remove them at kidding time or they'll eat the babies

- it's so cruel having them in a paddock with all those goats (one lady was utterly horrified - you mean they stay out there all night! That should be illegal!)

- they are all completely untrainable & savage - a vet nurse assured me "It's a Maremma - they all bite"

- working Maremmas must never be socialised or handled as it will ruin them for guarding

This thread makes for fun reading... and frustrating.

I always promise myself I will shut my mouth and not talk dog... then I always do and end up regretting it :D

Apparently there are 2 breeds of Rottis - the small ones and the large ones :):(

And this one just a couple of days ago "I ran over my new puppy and broke it's legs cause it loves me too much":mad

This was a business related inquiry, so I had to summon all my strength not to go to town on this prospective customer.

White GSD's/ROtti's/APBT's will have their brain outgrow their cranium and "snap"

Quinn must be a crossbred. No full BC's look like her.

and my favourite "she has some sheltie in her because of the blue eye yeah?"

...yes... because only shelties get blue eyes and she resembles them so much in ever other way.

And over and over and over again. "Can she see with her blue eye?"

I think I have heard nearly everyone of these - except the Polar bear one - that is way off!

I worked in the animal industry for a good 15 years. Needless to say I am quite thankful I no longer need to sit there trying to smile through gritted teeth. The worst thing is they absoluetly truely believe what they are saying.

I know of someone who got their GSD desexed because she got mismated and had crossebred puppies. One less BYB dog anyway.

My Dobes would turn on me one day, they all do it was jst a matter of time.

My on the top end of the height standard Whippet is too small for the breed, they should be a good few inches taller - and no they were not mistaking Whippets and Greyhounds!

My Rotti who had OCD of her elbows, bandy back legs and was BYB - I know I learnt!- should have beed bred from as she was such a good example of the breed. When told she had OCD what it was and that it was hereditary, oh that doesn't matter the puppies will be alright at least for a few years. Yep I am going to breed puppies that break other people hearts just like mine was broken.

I am sure there is more that I cannot remember at this moment.

:rofl::rofl: This thread is sooooo funny, I'm loving it . Here's my :dropjaw: moment, went to look at some Coolies a bloke bred, he told me they all ran together but that was ok because they wouldn't mate unless they were at least 2 generations apart , do I look that stupid :dunce: or is he. Also he said I could have one of them because it had a bit of an albino eye, it was a deformed eye, not inbred of course .

Had a lady bring her dog in to be washed, she said it was a pure bred Kelpie, it was black & white :D, no really we saw it's father & he was exactly the same & the breeder said he was a Kelpie, ok I'll just wash it & SHUT my mouth shall I .

Good Dog!!! I am so thankful we live in the bush and are not exposed to such ridiculous crap!!!!!!!

Honestly is would cause me to react in a way I would end up regretting!

I think the worst comments Ive had wouldve been to ask if my ridgie was born with the ridge  and the idiotic woman who swore black and blue her "pure" Labrador (with papers  , yeh, right!) had ridgeback put in the line a couple generations back (for what reason i didnt dare ask)......Her Labrador gets a ridge when it gets excited...............Of course I just smiled and nodded, thinking what the f**k ever lady!!!

A bit OT, but when I was a kid there was a girl in the class below me that reckoned if a horses veins stuck out after exercising, it was a thoroughbred :D :dropjaw::dunce::laugh: O...k...a...y!

Sorry guys... no, no, not on purpose, according to the owner the puppy followed her car down the drive way because it wanted to be with owner so much, and that is how it got run over. Just carelessness. Of course the puppy should have been confined and in fact it was the owner's fault for not securing the puppy that it got run over, not because it loved her so much... bloody idiot, the owner I mean. But how I wrote it previously was how she explained it to me... bit of a nutter I am sure.

Yeh, I know Emery, it drives you crazy doesn't it. Dyzney is a large bitch, but when she stands next to Jag they say she must be the "miniature" version :D

When you get the smart a--e folk that brag about their friend having a 80kg male that is "this" much bigger than mine (as they use their hands to make the size of about one foot", I cannot help but delight in telling them that it is way over correct size for Breed Standard and is drastically over weight and likely to be poorly bred. Or maybe a male that was way too young to be desexed.

Most totally does. Tend to just laugh now.

The two older pups were wrestling and making noise so were obviously vicious too.

THe 80kilo rotti comment gets a roll of the eyes from me to who does have an oversized rather poorly bred rotti but he is no where near 80kg

and the it has a head this big where the arms are stretched further than the body comments rofl.

Always good for a giggle :D

I have heaps but heres a few that come to mind.

I've heard some people say about how the dogs with thier hackles up must have ridgbeack in them, even the little foxie type ones.

My own father said at dinner a few weeks ago that red kelpies and black and tan kelpies are two different breeds. I nearly choked. But I couldn't win the argument because he has lived a lot longer than me and owned every kind of dog ever. :D

My father's friend has a cattle dog. He took great pleasure in informing me that blue heeler, red heeler, blue cattle dog and red cattle dog are four different breeds. I argued but to no avail. His breed was the better one, by the way.

Breed was said to be a miniature staffy.

I've had a couple of phone calls for miniatures over the years - thank doG they weren't asking for miniature blue english staffies or I probably would've gone up in flames   :D

Wow I love this thread and all the Rottweiler ones.. My husband boss constantly bragged how his Rottweiler is biggest dog in the world must weigh about 80kg til we invited them over for dinner and sized him up next to my 82kg male English mastiff x Dane. He looked more like a Labrador.
