whippets
You made your point on the first page of this thread, Bokezu. Don't think I would use Suprelorin on a show dog. I can't see the worth of risking infertility.

Rules require a set of testicles or ovaries, in the dog or bitch. There is no allowance for a 'spirit of the law ' re-reading of this rule. I cop the rules and the corruption of the rules. You have to choose which side to stand on.

-Megz-
this thread has opened my eyes to just how "unethical" some show people are Just because someone knows or can see the other side of an argument does not mean that they are breaking the rules. I tend to think I am fairly open minded and leave my rose coloured glasses at home. I know people cheat, I know there are many ways for people to cheat. I have NEVER cheated. I respect a great many of the people in this thread that your comment is no doubt aimed at, just because they see the other side does not make them unethical

SwaY
If you only stop to think there are plenty of de sexed males being shown. You don't have to casterate a male to render it infertile. Temporarily, for sure. Showing with hormonal implants is one issue that still needs a decision one way or the other. Which was on the 2009, or was it 2008? ANKC agenda, it never got discussed. I have a letter from the Vic CEO saying it's ok to show a dog whilst on the implant and that it is up to each judge to decide. (I assume that would be based on shrunken testicles)
Shaar
All standards state 2 apparently normal testicles, so as long as they are apparently normal there's no problem with the implant. A lot of dogs do have a ridiculous amount of shrinkage in which case they testes are no longer 'normal'. It's a gamble, every dog reacts differently to the implant so you are taking a risk whether your dog will be able to be shown or not. EDIT - In terms of a decision needing to be made one way or the other, I have a desexed male here who still looked like he was entire for a year after the deed was done... I could have been showing him and pretended he had an implant... that's where I see a problem with it. Edited January 9, 2011 by Shaar

oakway
;) think a few people in this thread probably show desexed bitches ;) I don't believe that. Most of us breeders value our bitches far to much to de sex them.
