dognurse
oh she is beautuful! i guess im the only one here who thinks she has staffy in her she looks like my girl who is an american staffy x german shep. mum was a shep, dad was the am staff. your dog is leaner and taller than mine and the tail is different too...your dog looks like my dog with greyhound thrown into the mix. whatever the breed i think she is beautiful, and if she has a beautiful temprament and easy to train does it really matter? good luck with her and welcome ;)
Dog_Horse_Girl
Wow, now that's a freaky kinda dog!Def. sighthound x! So how come you purchased from a pet store out of curiousty rather than buying a x-breed from a pound or a shelter? We were considering adopting a greyhound, when we were in the pet shop looking at fish and saw her. She was out growing the cage (had already been there for 1 month) all her brothers and sisters had sold, she was discounted to $100. We instantly fell in love with her. That's why it should not be possible to buy a live mammal from a retail outlet. ;) A greyhound from a reputable rescue is always going to cost more than $100, unless s/he has a special need which is stated by the rescue group. But you have a good idea of what type of dog you're adopting because these groups (often run solely by volunteers) do a lot of in-home work with each dog before homing him/her. With a pet shop pup, who knows? You have a nice mixed breed pup whose origin is unclear. Nothing wrong with that as I've only ever had one pedigree dog (my rescued greyhound) as all others have been rescued crosses/mixes. Would never buy anything from a pet shop that sells pups or kittens. Just couldn't bring myself to allow people to profit from the misery of the dogs used to supply these pet shops. But that's a whole other thread. You've come to a good place to learn about rescue/adoption/pet shops and about how to raise your pet to be a well-balanced and well-behaved one. I hope you stick around! Oh, I see no bull breeds at all in her. Whatever she is, I hope she's a keeper! When you need info about desexing, vaccinating etc, please drop into the health and medical forum...there is a huge amount of knowledge here for you to draw on. And welcome! melzawelza
I agree with the majority - 100% without a doubt a sighthound cross (most likely greyhound) and I can't really see American Staffy. She is lovely. Have a good read through the forum especially any threads about pet shops as there is a wealth of information for you to learn I would also be socialising her as much as possible if she spent a month in a glass box - and you may have some toilet training problems. tez
Reminds me abit of Gus who we adopted from the RSPCA at 14 weeks. Appartently his mum was a golden retriever but he has always looked sight hound x to me. He was 11kg when we bought him home and is now about 28kg at 10 months. Biggest sooky lala ever and we love him to bits! Good luck with you're pretty girl!
OSoSwift
Spearwood is a suburb of Perth. I have seen some pig dog type of litters advertised in the Quokka, but I think they are from up north a bit and would be more roo dogs than pig dogs I think. Do people use dogs for hunting roos in WA? That would be so illegal in QLD. What do the roo dogs do? Depends. Some Roo shooters shoot roo's then send the dogs out to mark where they have fallen, one I know uses Weims as they are easy to see in the spotlight. Others use them to hunt, pull down and kill roo's. As far as I know it is not illegal but most people shoot them or get a roo shooter in. Not too many use dogs. Ahh, interesting. The use of a dog to find the downed shot roo is a good idea. They can be hard to find in long grass or something. Pulling down and killing roos - surprised that is not illegal. WA's laws might not be so tough as qld perhaps. Plus, from the point of view of a professional roo shooter - I'm surprised it wouldn't cause too much carcase damage. Thanks for the info. Professional roo shooters don't use dogs it is generally the cowboys that do that. Some farmers still use roo dogs as well.
Lemonlime
Nice looking pup, I doubt there is an ounce of Stafford in their at all. Pet shops tend to lie about the breed, what ever sells! I realise you thought you were doing the right thing by getting her out of a glass cell, however all you really did was free up a space so that they could fill it with more puppies. Sad reality. raineth
yeah I really think she is a staghound/lurcher. We have so many of them where I live. People breed them and dump the extras in the pound - there is always more than one in the pound, usually more. Every one I have met has had a lovely disposition. I think she is a lovely looking pup too

Kirislin
to me her face and colour are more whippety than greyhoundy but her size means there's got to be something else in there. whatever she is, she's lovely.

Staranais
Whatever she is, she is very, very cute with her cheeky grin & crazy long spider legs! For what it's worth, I can't see any bull breed in there, or at least not much at all. I definitely can't see any Malinois there, as someone suggested - the long nose & black muzzle gives sort of a superficial resemblance, but everything else about her is wrong. Lots of breeds have have long black faces. ;) Edited December 20, 2010 by Staranais
Tim'sMum
What a gorgeous photo of her with your Rottweiler. I suspect that whatever breeds there are in her.....there is something big/tall! ;) She is not going to be small when she is fully grown....and as for Staffy? Not a chance that there is any Staffy there. There may have been two sires to the litter though...so it's a possibility that her littermates were Staffy X perhaps. One of my dogs comes from a mixed litter apparently....with more than one sire. His mum was a Kelpie and some of his siblings looked like Staffy X, but he is obviously a Kelpie/GSD X.
