Burkes
A few months ago I bought a new Canon 550d DSLR. I love it to bits and have been taking heaps of photos. So, last weekend I went to the pound to do the temp testing taking my camera with me so I could take photos of all the death row doggies. I came home and left my camera in my backpack on the bench in the kitchen and went off to work. When I got home, I found my backpack out in the yard all chewed up, and yes, all chewed up along with it was my camera The screen is completely cracked and inoperable. Also, the 18-55mm lens is completely trashed. But, the body seems to be ok. I have removed the broken lens and can put a new one on. The flash still seems to work and apart from the fact that I cant see what comes out of it, I think it took a picture. Has anyone had to replace a screen before? What does it cost? Unfortunately, animal damage is not covered by insurance unless the animal does not live on the premises. I think it was my foster dog who ate it, spewing now that she is chipped under my name Anyway, if you have experience in this area please let me know. Kirislin
that's terrible Maybe if you leave it somewhere some kind soul will steal it and you can then claim it on insurance? Edited December 18, 2010 by Kirislin

kja
That sucks! I have no idea what a screen costs to replace, but do contact Canon to find out. Hope you get something sorted quickly!
Kirislin
any update on this. I keep thinking how devastated I would be if my dogs chewed anything camera related and I do the same as you, they could easily grab something off a bench. I hope you can get it fixed. Does it still take photos as is, I know you tried but not sure if you've put them on your computer yet.

Burkes
Sorry for the late update. I have been on holidays in New Zealand........without a camera (waaaahhhhhhhhh). Anyway, the camera was totally stuffed. When I plugged it in to my computer it couldn't read that there was a camera there at all. Canon quoted me $500 for a new screen then they would have to look at the rest of it and couldn't confirm that it would be fixable. So, after a month or two of hell without a camera I had to go buy a new one. A very expensive lesson. Think I will buy a safe to keep it in.
