jacqui835
Which is the best all-round wormer for dogs? Is there one where I can administer just that and his annual heart worm injections and he will be entirely covered?
Crisovar
You can use Drontal All Wormer as required, I only worm if it is need after a faecal test, although many people use it every 3 months regardless. Pups should be done regularly, and any dog that has had a flea issue. Remember that intestinal wormers are not a preventative they are a treatment. jacqui835
Oh so does that mean that dogs don't typically have worms? I just assumed based on what the vet told me that they pretty much had worms all the time and hence had to be treated every 3 months... He did get fleas when we stayed at a friend's house a while back, but has since been on comfortis and hence has no flea issues now.
Crisovar
There can be some situations where dogs are constantly being reinfected and need to be kept on the 3 monthly regime and in some cases more frequently, dogs that constantly have a flea infestation for instance will need regular treatment for tapeworm, dogs that live in constantly damp humid conditions may need frequent treatment for hookworm etc, or animals in a high density environment where the soil or kennel run surface are causing issues. But for the average dog if you pick up poo daily, keep animals free of fleas, avoid areas that have been heavily soiled by other dogs, you probably will need to worm much less frequently.
