janeses
I would love to hear breeders experiences, opinions on breeding older bitches for their first litter. In saying older bitches, do you feel 5 to 5 1/2 years old too old to breed a bitch for her first litter. This is for a toy breed. I know there are many risks on breeding an older bitch like needing caesarians etc but would love to hear breeders views on the topic
cowanbree
Too late for me. I prefer 2ish but would consider up until 4 with final litters by 6 at the latest
Sandra777
No experience with toy breeds, I have bred a bitch (Stafford) for the first time at 5 years and a second one at about 5.5 years. Both had no problems. I believe it's not unusual for racing Greyhound bitches to have their first litter at an ''older'' age - but again they're not a toy breed either Edited December 16, 2010 by Sandra777
Lowenhart
We've had a 5 year old toy bitch whelp her first litter naturally - 5 good sized pups. Not all toy breeds are the same however.
