Assuming the pups are strong and suckling, don't leap in to supplement them - they really do need very very little from mum to begin with and the more they suckle the more milk she will produce (ALMOST ALWAYS!) They will drop weight in the next 24-36 hours this is normal, so don't panic so long as they're still strong and firm feeling. After a caesar I have always found mine are delayed about 12 hours in the upping of the milk production. (which is colostrum at this stage, but trying not to get technical!) Good luck ETA: I don't generally swap them around, but definitely make sure they're all latched on and suckling well. Cometbreeze Posted December 16, 2010 Author Share Posted December 16, 2010 Thanx Sandra777 and all, All looking good at the moment and suckling and then sleeping and mum defenatly wants to be with then as she still cleaning them all, i tried ti take her to toilet break but turned around and went straight back , I wont suppliment puppies yet but maybe i might give Mum the Wambaroo fo extra oomfp. Mum ( maggie ) still bleeding a lil but she is being real attentive and havent stopped panting, should i check her temp? rotating pups alil but they all look cute as...xoxo Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Its a spice that you use in Indian cooking Keep an eye on her with calcium - I don't know your breed but with 6 puppies at the milk bar its not a bad idea to keep it up to her. Cometbreeze Posted December 16, 2010 Author Share Posted December 16, 2010 have'nt got any fenugreek, but shes had some wombaroo, even put a couple of eggs in it when i made a litre, heard sugar is good too but Maggie has never had any luxsuries, all advance bickies and what we got now so just made that without sugar and loved it. its late but all suckled and quiet now,maggie went out for a wee stop and straight bac kand all good, what about me Mum is sleeping as she gas to work tomoz but im stuffed have alarm set for 2 hrs increments, and well, i guess what im saying is ill be delerious in the morn ill be up all night but i cant sleep now xoxoxox Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Milk alone might not be enough. If you have no calcium supplement then try adding cheddar cheese and a little full cream milk to her ordinary food (which I trust is puppy food not adult). This is assuming you KNOW she's not lactose intolerant. The puppy milk replacement is OK, but ordinary stuff is fine for a bitch with no lactose issues. I would give her minced or whole chicken (including the bone) but don't do this if she's not used to raw food! I wouldn't be adding refined sugar to anything, but a bit of honey (teaspoonful to a litre) or a similar amount of straight glucose if you have it. Don't fuss her as even though you might be her best buddy at other times, for now she is running on instinct and her instincts are telling her to keep her babies safe and away from ''everything''. Is the whelping box somewhere private? If not, don't move her but perhaps arrange furniture (QUIETLY!) so she's not looking directly out the front windows/at the kid's play area/anything else busy. If you have an open topped box a light sheet over the top make a little cave often helps settle them - may need to use a couple of dining room chairs to support it. Good idea on Calcium, next feed i will add cheese and some whole milk. Yes they are Staffords and we just did a toilet break for a wee, but havent done a # 2 yet since yesterday? I spoke to the rep of a well known brand of dog food and the rep pleaded with me NOT to feed bitches in whelp or nursing bitches Puppy Food. The rep said that bitches in whelp and nursing bitches need a complete diet and as puppy food was formulated for rearing pups always feed a complete diet. I also feed basically raw so it really does not really effect the like of us, but I thought it was an interesting comment by a rep who is also a breeder.
