stan the man
Hi all, I am asking for opinions on eye boggies Stan a Lab has woken up this morning with a big eye boggie in one eye (Has had them before) but today it just appeared to reappear a couple of times throughout the day. He goes to the beach most days and was wondering if the sand could bring this on. I have bathed it with warm water to clean it out and his eyes appear normal but was wondering if this could be the start of anything, apart from this one eye everything else is ok, still himself running around and eating everything (typical lab) but I will keep an eye on it (No Pun) but just wondering about others thoughts. :ange:
Our bitch used to get regular eye boogies.. they were shocking when she was younger. Thankfully she's grown out of it. If he's pawing at his eye and is irritated he could have an infection. Otherwise I'd say it's pretty normal. Like humans dogs can also get hayfever and tis the season for it!! Thanks for that, it was only after reading your post that I remembered seeing him rubbing his face on the mat earlier today, I shall watch him carefully
sas
Allergies?
Erny
I have found that they can also occur when the 'system' is down a bit (eg. coming in for Canine Cough or something). There are a number of reasons why eye blobs can happen. I would have thought that if the eye itself were irritated there would also at least be the presence of excessive tearing. Rinsing with sterilised saline solution (I just purchase mine from the chemist) can help and also soothe.

Rottifan
My rotti has the same issue every now and then but I think with him its more a case of having some dirt or irritant in it. I put boiling water in a glass and let it cool and put some rock salt in it and bathe his eye a couple of times a day and it seems to do the trick! whiskedaway
Akira gets harder eye boogies all year round, but lately they've been getting a bit more gooey and I'm having to clean her eyes a couple of times a day. She gets hayfever, so I'm pretty sure that's what's causing it.
vetrg
If the snotty discharge persists then exces mucus is an early sign of dry eye and should be checked out by a vet. Dry eye is easy to treat in the early stages and much harder if it is advanced.
Kelly_Louise
Eye boogers :D I thought I was the only one that called them that!!! The title of this thread gave me a giggle. I hope all dogs have nice clear eye now though
